Finally had an opening at the Hot Rod Shop to get my welding done. It came out pretty good in my book. His welds are not as pretty as my welder extraordinaire, Lubbarb back in Chicago were, but they are close!!! My rearsets are now finished. I think they came out plain and simple. That's how I like things!!!!
Also been working on my righthand switch body too!!! Its amazing how a little project takes so much time in the end to complete. Painting those little letters on the switch body reminded me of all the time I used to spend putting models together back when I was younger.
Between the machinist and the welder, I am over budget for this month. That means I can't buy anything else till next month. That really sucks in my book!!!

That is sooooo neet Dr. and the bike is true hardcore. I used to ride my race bike on the road to, always such a laugh to be pulled ower by the law and they could only confirm that everything was nice and dandy. Insured, road tax payed and fully street legal.
But what was the real reason to move the upper mounting points for the rear shocks?

Yea, it was real fun when I got stopped and the cop told me to get in the car. With no stands on the bike, I used to ask them if I could lean my bike up against their car!!!! Only one cop ever got down to look and see if I really didn't have any stands on the bike. The rest would just let me sit on the bike as they ran my license or wrote me some tickets!!!

Everybody moved the top shock mounts to gain some more rear wheel travel. The frame on this bike is what everybody did if they ran a KZ1000 in AMA Superbike back around 1978 to 1981 or so.

Nice work Gamma, looking really good. Nice solution for the rear MC and rearsets. The hand controls turned out very nice.

Hey doc, I tried a few times to brush paint the letters on switchgear. Ended up figuring out to just blob the paint on and wipe off the remainder with a damp sponge.

If you painted that the "right way" you deserve some credit, it's a pain

I used a toothpick and thinned the paint out a bit. It flowed to most of the indent for each letter. Yea I still had to wipe the excess paint off on some of the letters. Back when I was younger, I could paint the "GOODYEAR" on the tires freehand!!! Now I am blind in one eye, and can't see out of the other!!!

LIGHTS!!! CAMERA!!!! ACTION!!!!!!
Been trying to figure out the color code for the wiring harness I made for my KZ1000 back in 1979. I could not get wire to match all the stock Kawasaki wiring colors. So I had to improvise a bit. Since I could not get a black wire with a yellow tracer, I used a green wire instead. And so on. My main harness only has five wires!!!! Don't need no stinking turn signal wires, neutral light wires, or hazard flasher wires on my bike. If you need a little light to tell you that you are in neutral, maybe you shouldn't be riding a bike!!!!

As you can see from the photo, I now have a headlight and all the wiring to go with it!!!!! I used a early Honda 750/4 headlight bucket because its plastic, and is like a pound or two lighter than the metal one Kawasaki uses. I copied the 900 LTD headlight bracket in aluminum to save weight too!!! Just remember grams add up to ounces, and ounces add up to pounds!!!

If anyone out there wants to hang MK II bodywork on a early model frame. Here are some photos of the simple brackets I made up to hang the tail section. The two front tail section mounts are the same as the early tail section mounts. You will have to fab up your own seat pan mounts. The fuel tank bolts right up.

Going through some of my vintage Kz1000 parts that I packed away some 30 years ago, I ran across the huge Bassani pipe emblem too!!!! Three guesses where that is going!!!!!

why did you choose to keep the rear plastic fender section ?

The rules back then read "stock appearing" bodywork. Plus I didn't like the way the tail looked without that piece of rear fender. Plus if you look at the photo below you can see that the back of the seat, the tail section, and tail light are angled upward. The stock MK II bodywork goes straight back. I used to have my oil cooler mounted on the rear tail section just like Pierre DesRoches did on the Vetter Superbikes back then. And with the six inches of rear wheel travel, the rear tire would hit the bottom of the seat pan in the stock bodywork location.

Its real funny when you roll a stock MK II next to my bike, Ray Charles could see how much my bike's bodywork was moved around compared to a stocker!!!!!

Finally got my gauge cluster all cleaned up and painted along with mounting up my S1 race tach. Since the rolling chassis has been sitting since 1985, it was covered with dirt and overspray. What a P.I.A. (pain in the a$$) to get all parts cleaned off of overspray. Had to use carb cleaner on a rag and do each piece by hand!!! Even the handlebars were covered in grey overspray!!!! The speedo is just a shell. All the guts have been removed. Plus there is no drive for it on the front Morris mag!!! The rule book back then said it had to be "stock appearing"


You cannot believe how the tach cable is routed because of the oil cooler!!!! I routed it just like it was on my KZ1000S1.





This race tach even has a bulb in it to light it up at night!!!!


Anybody knows who makes or sells this fancy aluminum cam chain idler wheel???? I have one brand new one from somewhere, and I need another for my motor build.
