are you making an under tail exhaust? the rest of your explanation makes sense if so

yes, the exhaust is going to come up and out of the swingarm cutout. i may, or may not do an undertail, but the header i am using works out perfectly to use it.

look at the pic of the gp bike, and imagine that exhaust stubbed back to just behind the frame. 8^)

i want to be on the same page for the fork diagram.

21 millimeter = 0.8267 inch
21 centimeter = 8.267 inch

center of left fork tube to center of right fork tube, right?

yes center of left fork to center of right fork...
ah shit, I gave you mm instead of cm:pinch:
3.5cm and 21cm are the right ones. damn, missed that 3 times... that would have been one tiny set of forks
(I havent had much sleep lately, that was before I had my second coffee:P )

i'll just start off with the pics. not a ton of detail this time, really just overall shots of the stance, and how the bike looks with tank/tail/seat/side's on it.

the upper shock mount is 95% welded in. i am waiting to do the last of it after i pull the engine to finish weld all the odd things, and do the gussetting work. then it's off to coating. probably just going to do a basic blac gloss. yeah, i know original.

the other color that i was considering was a ducati style red, with black or suede body pieces. that would be really cool, but that's uber-italian. not quite what i am going for.

i have the ducati 900ss oil cooler that i am going to use now. that's gonna mount low, down in front of the header. kind of a strange place, but it will be cool, trust me...

took a few minutes and measured up the wheels chainline. the 636 rear wheel is right at 4" for the line... so, barring me being an idiot, by my calculations, i will need a 3/8s offset front sprocket.

here's how i figure that out...

stock 900/1000 chainline is 3.625(3 5/8ths)"
636 chainline (appears) to be 4.000"(center of wheel to center of sprocket with cush drive fully inserted into wheel)

4.000"
- 3.625"
= 0.375"

.375" = 3/8ths"

so, that is what i'll need to make. just need a little bit of DOM tubing and some time on the lathe.

close guys, real close.

i also see that you are needing a 3/8ths offset c/s sprocket as well..?

what is the tooth count you are looking for?

i'm going to be making one for my bike this week, so i'll let you know how it turns out.

77, i come up with 21cm wide, but my offset is only about 2.7cm. not quite what you have.

bummer, probably not gonna work out for your project.

Russ, great pics, just an idea for your powdercoat. maybe get the frame and swingarm done the same colour as the forks and the top of the shock.
thx for checking the triple specs, that rules out that swap.
yes I will be needing a 3/8ths offset sprocket. Im looking to get a 17 tooth (530). that, with the same rear sprocket on the zx7r wheel puts me at a bit of a lower ratio than using the 16 tooth front and a kz wheel. Im thinking that with the longer arm, lower gearing and hopefully a 40% increase(rough guess) in HP that it will just slightly pick up the front end if I blast it from a stoplight, and go like stink:evil: :P
I have been looking around online and offset sprockets cost upwards of $80 US plus shipping. I have been meaning to look around at a few machine shops to see about getting one made from 2 sprockets. My 16 tooth can be turned down to use the spline and a 17 tooth can be bored in the middle to OD of the socket that fits the nut, and welded on. I wish I had the tools and welding skill to do this.:(
theres a great how to on the welding on this dragbike.com thread

hmm.

interesting color choice... that would be quite a lot of gold... i still have a gold rear caliper...

what about this... crinkle black for the frame and s/a, then gold for the wheels?

8^)

that is why i asked on the sprockets... my 18t just came in today, and i have a 14t at home that i will machine the teeth from to use for a center section. then, i'll cut the chainring from this 18t sitting on my desk and TIG weld it to the center...

if mine turns out ok, i'd be willing to do one for you on the cheap. depends on if i make a good mandrel to keep things concentric. i've seen it done, so i know i can do it. just needed the parts and the time.
