it looks a bit high in the rear,is this the way its going to stay? i wonder what effects on the handling it will have so uneven.

found an old sprocket side cover that i had last night, it has more clearance for the offset sprocket... it fits perfectly.

knock another detail off of the list. now i just need to buzz the nasty black paint off of it.

ordered the z1000 top clamp, TAG rubber-mount bar risers for 1 1/8th bars, and a set of black renthal mini bend bars yesterday.

i decided that the clip-ons were gonna kill me for the long ride.

almost positive that it will be running at some point on saturday.

the pic's pretty much what the controls are gonna be.

yes, that's pretty much where it's gonna stay. more for looks than anything.

it might be a bit twitchy, as in steer quick. that's why i want to get it out and do some shakedown runs. easy, aruond the block, and in the neighborhood type runs.

it comes down about 2" with my booty on it, and it will be hauling some cargo with me this summer to cali. we'll see how that turns out.

i need to get my mitts on the rake/trail and wheelbase info for the 05 636r that these parts came from. then, i need to compare those dimensions to how it works out in this frame. i'm a little longer in the wheelbase, which should stabilize it somewhat. but, i think the rake/trail is a little tighter than the 636.

if i am lucky, it will be a wash. at the very least, i'll have some killer brakes, eh? 8^)

an 05 636r has a wheelbase of 54.7"

the 05 636rr is raked at 25 degrees.

no trail numbers, but i might be able to figure that out.

i should be in the ballpark, at the very least. i'm guessing that i'll be right about 3" of trail, ~26 degrees of rake, and a wheelbase about 55/56" long.

i'll pull a few numbers tonight before i get to work on the customer's car.

thanks dave!

yes, the 636 forks and treeks make things a lot shorter up front.

quite a bit, in fact. most of the rake on the bike comes from that. by rake, i mean stance, not rake of the neck.

the top clamp that i ordered is hopefully going to help out with that some. it will allow me to drop the tubes a little more to raise the front of the bike some.

here's the specs i came up with yesterday:

wheelbase = 58" (3.3" longer than 636)
trail = 4.375"
rake = 19 degrees. yes, that is correct, NINETEEN.

so, as you can see, i NEED to raise the front. as much as i possibly can. even with 230#'s on the seat, that only brings back about .80 degrees.

i'm gonna test ride it with things as they are. i can lower the tail more by altering where i mount the lower linkage pivot. i probably have 2-3" that i can drop the rear, but that won't probably bring back all that much.

so, might have to have that steering damper after all.

yowzah!! 19 degrees?! That's virtually straight down, man :)

That'll give you quick steering, for sure... :blink:

quick, and not stable at all.

the longer wheelbase will dull it down some, but i doubt it will be enough to really matter.

let's see how the new top clamp works out. i was able to check out a z1000 today at lunch, and on that bike my 636 forks are TOO LONG!!! they have to drop them in the clamps by almost an inch.

btw, i REALLY want on of those bikes... i know, not an old air-cooled kz, but hell. fuel injected, the one looked at had a full arata ti exhaust system, ohlins shock, braking wave rotors... scott's damper. you get the drift. and, get this guys, with just the exhaust, it dynos out to 134 hp at the bloody wheel!!!

hmm.

just hmm.
