i'll run the stock controls from the 636 on the clip-ons while i look for the top triple from a z1000. that upper clamp will bolt right on the 636 forks AND allow me to use 7/8ths bars. i might just mod the 636 clamp to use the bolt-on type bar mounts, which will let me use either 7/8ths or 1 1/8ths bars.

Just a thought but this may help. What if you got an extra set of handlebar clamps and machined the crown off the top. Then use this as a bottom and drill holes in the 636 top tripple clamp and bolt on your bars useing the new bottom under the bars .

I hope that made sence? How long are the 636 forks from top to axle center?

mark1122, i totally follow you on that. my problem is that the upper clamp is not flat on the 636. there are two oddly shaped holes, and some differing dimensions right where i'd need to drill.

what will work out best is to locate an upper clamp from a 03-up z1000. drops right on this fork, and uses standard 7/8ths bars.

i'll measure those later on and post the dimensions up.

yah, andrew was down, he needed to get some bike time in the other day.

i made him tear the old forks off, and put the new stuff on. it's good for him. just need to find him a bike for the trip this summer.

i stuck the front forks/wheel/brake on the drag frame, just to get it out of the way.

man. now i want to work on that project too... get the turbo bike up and running. that things's gonna be stupid cool too. the fast part is the part that i wanna get to.

also, wire, need some part numbers and such for the sleeves and all that stuff for your and my engines. i need to get my friend on the horn with wiseco and get that all ordered. shoot me a pm to discuss.

You said that you're going to get a z1000 top clamp? Is all the offsets and center to center dimensions all the same? On my Gsxr front end I'm using a set of TAG risers made for a dirtbike. Just takes a 10mm hole per riser and whoila! It was way cheaper than getting a custom triple clamp made or trying to source another triple clamp.

the z1000 clamp is a bolt on for these forks. guys with the z1000 are using the 636 pieces to upgrade their bikes.

i'll need to mod the stock 636 clamp to use those. they have an odd hole cast into them that would need to be filled to allow those tag risers to work. i've been thinking about it, tho, because this way i could easily either use 7/8ths or 1 1/8ths bars.

i'll give it a month or so of searching for a z1000 clamp, then look into modding this one.

love your bike doug. very sweet ride.
