Still could hold the crank from turning if this is still needed, use 1 of the wrist pins with 2 blocks of wood. Wood across the case, turn crank so wrist pin contacts wood on both sides, putting even pressure on small end of rod. Seems the problem is your axle doesn't have a Hex nut end, only the trough hole? I suppose you don't want to damage your axle, so maybe another bolt that's got the same thread, of good grade. A hand Impact driver set is 1 tool that you will need from time to time, and may very well take that off, once you have a bolt with a Hex head.

If you have a body-shop near you,do what I did, just ask to borrow a dent puller with a heavy weight.I had to attach a short length of chain to the shaft and it worked like a charm.B)

What the $&#% are you doing to this girl now! :P

OK. The impact is god-like in its ability/design for this stuff, but if you short on $...
If the clutch basket is still installed, just pull that cover off, and wedge a penny in between the crank gear and basket gear. There, crank WEDGED, and it will not move. The penny is soft, and it wont damage the gears as it crushes slightly.

Now take the correct size bolt and just spin it into the stator shaft with a wrench till it stops fairly tight. RAP with hammer at medium force. Bolt will turn again slightly more (maybe 1/4 turn or so) till tight. RAP again, turn again, RAP again, then POP! With a couple turn/RAPs, the thing is off in 2 mins.

Good luck bro!

Sorry we missed eachother, but... life is long. Get that girl nice!

You could have called me LL cool J last night I was rapping until I was getting yelled at from the wife because of the noise. I think this rotor is really stuck on there, this GPz motor has seen better days! This GPz motor is from the other bike I got. I am going to use the other motor till this one is done, and in the meantime make this one really strong and fast. All the while I am doing other work to my bike, and slowly converting the GPz into a drag bike.

I am heading to a swap meet near Milton Oct. 2nd weekend if you wanna meet up...

I had a horrible time getting the rotor off of my crank too. The impact driver broke the flywheel puller off in the threads and it got worse from there! The next time I used the steering stem bolt and a ball bearing and it worked very well.

To stop the engine from turning, you can put a rod through your connecting rods - 17mm I think or anything close would work. I also used a chain-type strap wrench from harbor freight that worked - wrapped it right around the rotor -really cheap too. If you're able to use an air impact, you won't need to hold the engine anyway. Good luck and let us know how it goes. This is really a fun job!

I suppose all this silliness should be in the newbies adventures thread as this is totally simple stuff that I am having issues with simply because I have never done them before...but whatever.

Here is a link to how I did it/the gear puller method. It worked real good although I suspect your flywheel may be more stuck than mine was.

Ah  , I see. Very good.

Well, a GOOD impact wrench is generally pretty expensive. I'm not to fond of the air units unless they are the $200+ ones, on 100+psi w/large tank. The corded ones work great though, and are less expensive, but still like $150+ for the REAL ones.

So... let me get this right. You have the crank locked, right? So you cant turn the bolt any further? Not even with a breaker bar? Little heat with a torch?

Oct. 2 is the date of my surgery, so unfortunately will have to make a later date.

Cheers.

Update: I tried my blind hole bearing puller, found a collet that fit perfectly, nice and tight. I pulled the hammer on that thing a good dozen times, swearing louder and louder with each pull. It broke. I was as mad as a viking could be.

SO I drove half an hour into town and saw gear pullers like the one from the above linked thread on sale, got one that looked like it fit, got home, and the claws are a hair too short. I am hence taking a night off to smoke cubans and drink and generally forget about this bullshit until tomorrow when I can get a puller that fits. If that fails I will call up the local shop and take the motor there and have them take the phuqer out.

Anyways, just to make absolutely certain I am not being retarded, pulling on the gear in the pic should take the rotor off right?
