You might try getting one custom fabbed or look for a 13mm if you have not already. the ones that I did find were pretty pricey two years ago. How far to the right can you slide your wheel over? Can you try to achieve a 1/4" of clearance, or even 3/16" between the tire and the swinger? Getting the tire centered on the center-line of the bike should not be a priority. I'm OCD about symmetry (and a lot more :woohoo: ) and I let my wheel ride to the right a good amount (I have not physically measured how much, but the calculations tended to support it was over 3/8"); at any rate, it will not affect the way the bike handles. ;)
Sorry if this is something you have already looked into, I just didn't see anything about it in the previous posts, I hate to sound like I'm drilling it in. My opinion is unless you have to have the wider tire, the simple solution is what you stated, using the 170mm tire and 3/8" offset sprocket. Its coming along awesome, one thing at a time !

doublezed...thx
got quoted $119 for a custom 1/2" 530 18tooth....2 to 3 weeks but will be able to keep 180mm tire
or get a 3/8" for around $65 and get a 170mm tire
i will have to buy new tires anyways.
just like the look of the 180....almost as wide as the tail piece.

also finish the battery mount......did add the tabs that leon suggested... not perfect but will work for me.. will be corved anyhow.

glad the gauge mounts worked out so well .
the gauges, headlight relationship is a big part of the classic look of a kz.
your bike is looking really good  ,

ok......so got the chain line up 1/2" offset and flip the rear sprocket.....but now the front sprocket cover hits the chain.
whats being done to avoid the chain heating the cover.
i have found some members make custom covers but really would like to avoid that as it will take me for ever to come up with one.
i will load a pic later

Nice build my buddy ran into the same issues on his kz busa swap.. Not exactly how I would have done it but it was tested high speed on expressway with no shakes or wobbles..

Spdy, I think I should have mentioned to you that the sprocket would hit the cover lol  I seem to recall reading about it on several builds in the past; most ground the inside of the cover down (like me). But with the 5/8" offset I'm running, I ended up trying to bend the area next to the frame outward, but it split and I had to clean up the edge. It took some trial fitting of course. I can take a pic of the area and where I ground it on the inside, if you like.

DoubleZed.....just saw the pic of your motorcycle....looks like you cut the cover right behind of the cover for the adjustment clutch cover. Right?

if it is just the rear lip of the cover you can grind, mill, sand it out of the way.

if it is more you may want to look into some more severe modifications  .
