Brazing a mount to the frame would be better . . .

Tig welding would probably be better than brazing, but the equipment is more expensive and it requires more skill.

Would not drill through the frame without welding in a support boss.

Here's a link to the thread that contains steell's above post, plus other advice in this regard.

Patton.....the holes would be on the tube under the seat ( 3/8"). Would not think thier is any stress from the engine.
Are u saying it would crack from vibration over time?

Also how do I measure for chain drive lenght? front to back sprocket

Can't you bend it all the way around the frame nice and tight and then bolt the strap back to itself?

it is the stress from the rear shocks working feeding through the subframe into the backbone tubes that would cause you problems.not vibes from the engine.

drill a 5/8's hole and use some 1/8 wall tube cut to length and weld it in.
now it is stronger than it was to begin with.

leon

p.s. a piece of string wrapped around your sprockets can get you close on length then a little math will tell you how many links you need.

531blackbanshee......not using duel shock going mono.
sbc1320.......I could but in case i need to remove the paint would get damage by bending the metal.

what about how to measure for a chain?

diviide that by the chain pitch (5/8's for 5 series or 3/4's for 6 series)and that should give you the number of links.

the mono shock will remove the forces from the sub frame i was refering to.

but,
just drilling holes through tube to mount anything is poor form and the area where the hole is will fail if it is going to fail anywhere.

some tabs welded to the side or bottom of the tube vertically (hangin down) would give you mounting points and not compromise the tube.
thats my .02 fwiw,
leon

p.s.

in case you need help figuring out your offset.
