still an e-model tho,all the shafts are e-model in the serial #.
i have been wanting to see someone mod a shaft tank and use it on a modded build.
can't wait to see what you end up with.

It was pretty easy to get to fit. It just took some persuasion to widen the tunnel. I still need to cut and section the rear mount to get it to sit all the way down. I figure it needs to drop about 1 1/2" in the back to sit right. I am going by the tank emblems so I will try to get them level.

Got the tank to set on the frame much better. Also shortened the rear mount and it now lines up quite nice. Forgot to mention that besides its racing history the reason I love the ELR so much is that my step dad used to race with Lawson. He has pictures from their early racing days and was always a huge fan after he quit and Lawson kept racing. After he passed away I found that MKII tank in his garage and had an itch to build a KZ ever since.

There has been progress!!
Got the ZRX swingarm mounted quite nicely. Still waiting on the spacers so I can see how far off the 900rr wheel is. Picked up a set of "J" model side covers that fit the frame very well. I will be moving the tank back about 1.5" in order to get all of the body lines right. Plus it sits to close to the steering neck.
I got the engine off of my freezer and onto a dolley via a chain hoist I picked up recently. I pushed it outside and got it soda blasted. Will be painting it shortly.
Now for pics!!

Nicely done man, shaping up pretty nice; it's good to see a pile of parts turning into something, other than a bike turn into a pile of parts.
If you're worried about having two intake cams, let me know, I believe I have a set of 81 J cams in a box somewhere.

Thanks bud. I'm not too worried about it. I have read about others doing the same. My buddy said that it gives the exhaust a real nice sound.
Got the tail mounted tonight.

Got my rear set plates made and started working on the side covers to help with the lines of the bike.
Before:
After:
Also got the GPZ seat to flip open like its supposed to stock. I still have to relocate the rear hinge on the frame but the front is welded back on and works great
