This is a continuation of my project here. 82 GPz750 keepin' it real,.. for now

It wont be as quick and comprehensive as I was hoping. The '79 KZ1000ST that I acquired to ride while I was working on this bike isn't as ready to ride as I hoped. So I'll be splitting my time between both bikes trying to keep the GPz ridable as much a s possible.

i started to mount the ZR7 tail light today withthe help of a saveaged ZR7 Fender Eliminator kit that I bought of ebay.

Here's a tease shot.



I'll post a pic of when I'm done.
I can do a write up if anyone is interested. I'm trying to do a few picks as I'm going along.

keep it coming man, we like your enthusiasm here.

Personally, I always thought the body and lines on these GPz twinshock are so timeless and iconic that you can't improve,,,bobber and streetfighter mods to me almost like chopping the tail off a cat.

As for 'more' unique, you'll never park up next to another 750R1 even at a classic bike show, just too rare nowadays.
Around 15 roadworthy GPz750r1 in UK now. ..actually double rarer than my ELR z1000R R2

With your help I came to realize how rare this bike is. I did promise not to chop this up at that time which i intend to keep.

My one and most likely only exception I have just taken. A PO had some sort of issue with he turn signal tabs. One side was a cobbed reweld of the original tab the other side was a fabbed piece out of 1/4" plate. They were uneven and looked like shit. I gound these off, they were in the way of my mounting the ZR7 signals anyway. If this had not been the case I would have done something else with them.

Well, I haven't ridden in 2 days. It is getting a bit chilly but that usually doesn't scare me.

My petcock is acting up and I just got the kit in but haven't had the chance to clean and rebuild it. I figured that while I'm at it I'll put in the DS2-2 that's sitting in the box. If the weather is holding out after that I'll ride around a bit, if not I'll go back through my carbs and maybe rejet a bit up.

After that if winter has taken hold by then I'll continue with my check list of wanna-do's.

I'm losing my "moto"-vation so I"m going to think out loud, so-to-speak to keep me going.:

Needs:
rebuild petcock

have stuff for and most likely needs:
Dyna DS2-2 ingnition
Rejet carbs with the bigger mains the kits came with, 115s I think, probably needed it anyway since today's gas is shit compared to the the stuff it was designed for especially with the 4-1 pipes.

don't have stuff but could use:
dyna dc1-1 coils
valve guide seals

Would be nice to get done by next spring if I get the 1000 running;
handle bar conversion
Solo seat and cowl
Paint
More permanent muffler set up.

Maybe stuff:
rear (taller?) shocks
rearset pegs

That is the same thing I did to my ELR clone rear tail light, except I used the original light. I cut then welded the light assembly to fit closer and tucked into the rear tail fairing. I thought it made a much cleaner look than the OEM style, that left the light hanging way out.

That's cool! i wanted to get away from the squareness of the light too and preserve the original mount just in case.

I just took it for a spin up the canyon and took full side shot.

Not much to report really. I'm dragging my feet and/or it always seems there is something else to do.

We got our first real snow storm yesterday. Just enough to stick to the lawns but not the pavement. It will be icy this morning.

The only slight development is that I scored a pair of new Dyna DC1-1 coils on ebay for about $70 shipped.

Did some wrenching yesterday! It was a beautiful day, it would have been nice to be riding instead but I've been obsessing on getting a few things done.

I drained the tank and took off the petcock and gauge. The petcock looked like the PO had rebuilt already but I soaked it in Chemdip for few minutes and rebuilt it with a fresh kit anyway. The gauge looked to be in fine condition too. I checked the float for leaks and tested the resistance readings and it seams fine. I don't know why it reads weird sometimes unless there is a short in the wiring. I'll have to remember to check for that later.

I pulled the carbs and rejected to the 115 jets. The pilot jet plug was upsidedown in #1 which might've caused some of my issues.

I pulled out my ignition and started to install the Dyna. One of the plate mount screw heads was pretty buggered so I'll go get some replacements. Just as well, I have to get some hardware to mount my green coils. I've decided I'm not going to adapt the existing mounts but mount them with the ports outward. If I don't find anything that will work directly out of the hardware store without looking too hoky I'll build some out of the leftover stainless plate from the ZR7 fender eliminater I used for the taillight. I bought a set of Dyna plug leads too, I figured I might as well since I was at it. The plugs are in pretty good shape so I'll leave them alone. I hope I don't mess it up too bad, electrical is always my weakness.

I'll post pics when I have everything mounted back up. :)
