Since I can't ride my bike right now due to another health problem. I got tried of just sitting around doing nothing!!! So I torn down my spare Superbike 1015 motor. It has been sitting under my work bench since back around 1985 or so.

It looks pretty healthy in my book by the nice baby $hit brown color of the exhaust valves, and exhaust port!!! Lack of carbon buildup in chamber even with the two ring Yoshimura slipper pistons, and no valve guide seals on the exhaust side. It was a Yoshimura head that I had done up back in 1979.

Why no exhaust seals?

That's the way Pop did his heads back then. Their theory was it would let a small amount of oil lube the valve from galling and then keep it from sticking the valve to the guide. This motor never had a hint of smoke, even after going a whole year without a teardown!!!

I did see a few motors back then built by drag race engine builders that did seize the exhaust valves to the guides, and after just a few laps around Daytona. A couple of those motors were big time blow ups!!!! Done blowed up real good!!!!

Makes sense. My seals were bad and you can tell by the pics the hot gasses got into the head by the color on the cam caps. Those motors were taken down a lot and a lot hotter than any street bike.

i'm with you doc don't see a thing wrong with the burn in those chambers.

if you ever remove the valves i would love to see a shot down the short turn radius from the seats.

Got my GunKote from Brownells, and got my two pieces I want to coat bead blasted, and I am ready to paint!!!! Only problem it is the monsoon season here in Az. Three straight days of rain, or drizzle, and high humidity. I am going to paint outside. GunKote is just too nasty to spray inside a rented house. If I did, and the landlord smelled it, I would looking for a new place to live.

I have test fitted to see if my collector fits in my oven. And I made a nice stand to hold the collector when I coat it. Now if it dries out a bit, I am ready to coat my parts!!!! (I hope)

Finally had a slight break in the monsoon, so I got to spray a little GunKote on my parts. I had no problems with clogging nozzles or anything like that from Brownell's spray GunKote. Only problem with it was the color was MILES off from the original GunKote gray that I asked for. And Nessism was rght, their MATT finish is more like a satin finish than a true flat finish.

Here is what my old Superbike is going to look like at the VJMC bike show in Prescott Valley on August 27th. I decided to put it back together just the way it looked the very last time I raced it back in the 80's. Except for the new style rearsets I just fabbed up it is exactly the way it looked the last time it rolled off the track. Since my Doctor just told me to stop riding my bikes until they can figure out what is causing me to feel real faint at times. I might just have to park my bikes in my living room from now on in. I really hope not after all the work on putting this bike back together!!!!

Schweeeet ride. I bet that big ole Bassani pumps out enough bass to make your hair stand up! :evil: :woohoo:
