Just got a e-mail back from them. They're awaiting a new shipment of gauges and will let me know when I can send mine back for an exchange. I'm going on a trip so it will be at least a week before I can send it. By then they should have one.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationAs much as I hated to, I bought the Tach drive gear and holder from DIGIDAVE. That's the guy that wants $9000 for a set of engine cases. I was watching a complete unit for $32.99 plus $5 shipping. It is froze up I guess from sitting but the one I bought looks good.
He wanted $36.42 for the gear and $44.42 for the holder (housing). They show sold at those prices though I got them for $25 and $10.
I didn't realize who I was dealing with until I made my offer. I should have offered $15 and when he accepted my $25 I knew I'd been had. To make up for it I offered $10 for the holder. That would bring the sale about even with the one I was watching. To put a good gear in a 40 year old housing would be stupid so it made good sense. I clenched my teeth (what's left of them  ) and clicked pay now.
To be honest, I'm going to be anal with this guy. I'll check it for true and the housing for slop. If not within service limits, I'll open a not as described claim. His selling practices PISS ME OFF and is another example of why eBay isn't like it use to be.
I have no non pay marks against me and as a seller, I went out of my way to see that the buyer was happy. That is if you don't count the three that tried to scam me. :woohoo:
My old Tach drive works but has a little wag to it. Could be bent or the housing worn out. I'm buying one to be sure the new Tach I have is faulty or not. If it still jumps around, I'll send it back for a replacement.

Got the Tach drive and holder. It looks new. O ring is hard but that's normal I'll put it in and see if that wag goes away.
I told z1parts I bought one to be sure it's not the drive making the Tach go wild. They said if it still does, send mine in for a replacement.

It still wags. I'll put my old Tach back on and send in the new one. One of the few eBay sellers that stand behind what they sell.

My new reissue tach wags like that too, below 3000rpm. Then it stabalizes.
But it does not do that weird jumping around, at the higher revs, like yours.
That thing is broke!

Yep. I hope the new one doesn't do that.

I sent that clip to z1partsinc. Got a reply they will exchange it as soon as I ship it. Too bad another supplier wouldn't stand behind their sales.
I can highly recommend them.

Boxing up my new tach for exchange. I went through the old one and it works but not perfect. Vid later. If the new one doesn't work right, I'll convert my old one to electronic.

I were to do it again I'd buy a KZ 650 Tach and a KZ 1000 speedo and switch parts. The genuine Kawasaki face I bought in 14 isn't faded like the new one I bought less than a year ago.

Got a break in the heat this morning, only 90 at 6 AM, so I put in the new speedo they sent me by mistake. ROCK SOLID at 70=100. :woohoo: They said the batch of speedos are being sent back for corrections. This one has different markings on it and a inspection label. They said I will get a new Tach when they get the defective one back. I bought a new Tach drive for it so there's no sense spending anymore money if I don't have to. We'll see.

Well good news and bad news. The new speedo is rock solid. Went through a speed zone and it read perfect at 45 MPH. Coming home through the pass the traffic was at 95+. I was at 95 and still being passed. Speedo still solid.
They got my return but they're sending all of the Tach's back because of the same issues. They don't know when new ones will be available.
They will be refunding my money. My old Tach doesn't fit well on the aftermarket bracket so I will have to use my old one.
I guess I'll be going with a electric conversion after all.
I ordered a tank kit I had my eye on so they deducted that from the refund.

At least I'll have the rubber bits I've wanted FOREVER but I'm disappointed with the gauges.

Glad you have some recourse.
My new aftermarket tach still wiggles up and down 250rpm until it smooths out to +- 50 rpm or so at around 3200rpm.
Not happy with that.
Like to hear more about an electronic one.
Sense signal off the coil or??
Is there one that looks original?
