Thinking I want aluminum. redline is steel and so is the german one. the jap one is very nice but way too much $$$ It seems the jmc is the nicest for the price. I started emails back and forth with them. I tried to call them but could not get through. I will see if I can get that straight, so I can see if i can get a real time frame for delivery. I still want to talk to tracs, overracing and mcintosh.:S

be sure to keep us informed. I agree with the aluminum. I compared weight and thought if I'm doing all this, mine as well make the best out of it. I'm having a GS arm polished to see how close it will come to the 'sculpture' version

Trac is Aluminum - surely not a pretty as the sculpture from japan, but nicer then the GS.

McIntosh is box steel only

I did it!!! I placed the Order. Emails back and forth state that the KZ arm is pretty straight forward to make and it should be done beginning of march or sooner.

yeah, but look at this thing!! Just got off the "tele" with Stephen he said 12 weeks even with the 2 week holiday shutdown. All for 569 pounds ($853) Wow!! I can wait for that. cheers!! I will keep you guys up to date.

At Jmc, we've been designing and manufacturing swingarms for 23 years.

We pride ourselves on advancing swingarm design and using the best materials we can source. That's why all our swingarms are manufactured from 7020 aluminium, using our own bespoke extrusion, not only for the 'arms themselves but also our bracing section. This currently costs around 2.5 times the price per kilo of 6000 series aluminium which other swingarm manufacturers use, so you can understand why we shake our heads when we see the high prices of other swingarm manufacturers!

We use high-end CAD software to draw and design specific parts and components, whether it's a whole swingarm front-end, linkage mounting points or our Pro-Street slotted adjusters. They're all meticulously designed, tested and then machined on our CNC machine.

I have a JMC swingarm I bought from the swingarms.com website a number of years back. My experience was sort of mixed, but it turned out alright. I specified a Z1 arm 1" over w/o brace to match a donor ZX-11C rear wheel, use dual shock mounts. Took about 10 weeks for the thing to arrive as this utterly fantastic gleaming piece of lightweight aluminum art.

But the details of fitting quickly became a nightmare. In a way, I can understand the problems -- the engineering to deal with the back end geometry is significant. And I was trying to wedge a big-ass rear meat/axle in there - 180 fits. Long story short, I had to slice into my sweet new swingarm and have a welder move the shock mounts. Also had to custom machine the rear hub to avoid shock/sprocket interference and get chain run right. ZX-11C has a very wide rear axle.

I was in contact with Stephen at JMC several times and can tell you the customer service is just excellent. Stephen reimbursed me for the welding work and apologized.

A few lessons I learned:
- Chain/sprockets/shock geometry interactions are tricky for the amateur engineer. Extending the swingarm actually helps to move the shock mounts away from the sprocket and chain, separate those issues. Mine all converge in one spot.
- The Z1 frames seem to vary quite a bit -- my chain JUST slides past the front frame tube with 7/8" offset sprocket, but dragged on several hard pieces requiring further customization. I have heard some only accepting 5/8" offset without flattening/moving the frame. Am using an outboard bearing support for 7/8" offset sprocket from PMFR (also beautiful piece btw) and 530 chain conversion.
- Damn near everything in the rear end drive is custom somehow now, not quite stock for any of the Kawasaki product's involved. The bike works great, but it's a lot of info to keep track of. I limited the changes where possible. E.g. My brakes/chain/wheels/tires are all ZX-11C.
