thanks badkaw.it is amazing that even without it being bright and shiny how many people notice that swingarm.it has caused me to meet quite a few people, and hear some wild stories.
omr,i got my first z1r when i was 15,i'm 37 now and still have it(and this one).i do things a certain way(masterlink instead of rivit style)because i have experience with it and it has always worked for me.i also built the swinger the way i did because i didn't want to modify the frame, and i did not do any mods on the frame except to trim the bolt head off the lower peg bolt.
yes machining the pivot tubes can be tricky.i like to be able to do everything myself, there is a great sense of accomplishment in that.

Henry Keller, vintage racer out of Florida. He is a very nice guy who is a true racer as well as a builder. Always has some exotic un-obtainium stuff, and it's always pristine, too. I've got a couple pics of his GS1000S road racer and his Z1R roadracer (a bike that has NEVER seen the street...is that cool, or what!

I've had a couple of JMC arms. They aren't as strong as they look. Fine for a 100hp road bike, not so good for a 200hp+ road/drag bike. They are a bit bendy, I've bent two JMC wheel spindles, and the roll pins that locate the adjuster bolts fall out. On my dad's bike the chain jumped off at over 190mph due to this. Take whatever delivery time you are given and double it.
TRAC and MacIntosh arms are popular with the UK drag racers. Spondon arms are too, but with the same delivery caveat as JMC and don't bother ordering any accessories such as chainguard or caliper hanger - they won't fit.
If you need a strong box section arm for a Z or KZ you could do a lot worse than a GSXR600/750/1000/Busa arm. I run an extended 600 arm and it's run over 200mph several times and low 9 second passes with no drama. You can weld in or bolt in extensions, and weld on shock mounts. They polish up ok too, once you get past the weird outer coating. They are narrow enough at the front to fit most KZs, unlike modern Kawasaki arms which are generally too wide.

I wont be going 180 or 200 mph on this kz, thats for sure! If i wanted to go real fast I would drop 12 grand on a new busa or zx-14. Then add some parts . I am after looks and something that will hold a 180 tire with this arm. End product, hopefully will be a bike that is wayyyy cooler than any cookie cutter harley and something I built with my own hands. I heard the horror of the wait, I dont seem to like the looks of the other arms available and the cost. I will post when I get it so anyone thinking of getting one will also have my experence with them. HMMM. maybe I will forward a email to them to let them know (we) kz people are watching.
here was last winters project.
