Broken off jet? was created by imagesofhis
I have no idea what to do next...I have this jet that broke off in its threads. It is tiny and broken uneven down in the hole. Any suggestions?
In the second pic it is the jet to the left. So tiny!

Let's see if I can get the pics right-side up?

Try an easy-out but first soak it a few times in carb cleaner. before trying the easy-out try tapping on it lightly with a punch to jar it a little
Good luck.

A left hand drill bit works great for this, powered with a cordless drill in reverse.

I have also had great luck with reverse drill bits, though I use the 'screw gun setting' (slow speed) on my cordless drill.

An Easy-Out or LH bit both work. I just removed some of those pilots yesterday and before putting the blade to the head I hit the outside of that post with a torch blast to break down the varnish. Got them all out but it was nerve racking.

Getting a easy out in that hole could be a problem I had to grind the thicker part to fit into the hole. Do like Ness suggested. Heat it up before trying to remove it.

Um... Is it required to point out that gasoline powered / operating carburetors and torch fire are unlikely to play nice together... ?

Good luck with that extraction. Dang that looks sketchy. I guess since you are tearing down the whole carb bank ? that you will remove all the rubber components and seals before apply heat by fire ?

Using heat by whatever method, apply it only to the part in question. A heat gun or hair dryer could work in this case.

Thanks everyone! Wrench monkey, I appreciate the heads-up...better to be safe. I've already disassembled all the carbs top and bottom and the hoses. I had several jets that were stuck, so I applied penetrating spray and that did nothing. I used a small torch to heat the jet post to 170-200 degrees F measuring with an infrared heat sensor and all but this jet let came out. The only fire I had was from the penetrating spray. This jet broke off at the head, must be really really stuck! What I'm most concerned with is how tiny it is and drilling blind into that hole. The jet broke uneven down in there and I'm concerned the drill won't bite dead center (just jump around). Any suggestions on how to center the drill when I can't see in there?

A quick thought; not that I've ever done this but given the circumstances...

Perhaps slip a small brass tube (like the opposite end of the emulsion tube that's broken off, down into the bore and insert your drill bit into this to help protect the cast-in threading that you surely don't want to chew-up with a drill bit that happens to wander off.

Only way I can think to ensure your drill bit / extractor bit doesn't get all wonky on you is to center the smallest drill bit you have into the broken-off part - like 1/16" or so, and then kinda' step up the drill bits 3/32" and so on until you have a nice clean seat in that broken-off piece to fit the extractor bit down into.
You may have to wrap the extractor bit with some tape to protect those cast threads from getting chewed on.

Thinking out loud is all B)

The jet has a hole in the middle. I'd take a sharp punch to define it then a 1/16 bit just enough to make a divot not drill through. Break it off then you're REALLY in trouble. Go up size by size until the hole is large enough for the extractor. Once ready just heat the outside of the aluminum so it will expand and unscrew the broken piece. Delicate work so take your time.
