I put metal tape over the top three vents. Seems better. Three plugs were way rich but #3 was clean as it was yesterday when I bought them new. Float levels are good, air screws adjusted, I guess I need to check the valves. I did them one tire ago. Coming home it did this again.

Sounds electrical to me, not fuel related

Yup but it doesn't explain the rich plugs though.

Iif all the plugs are fouling....it could if the "electrical system" acting up is the causing an ignition system failure.
It sounded like the fuel selector just shut off. But even when I would do that on purpose, the engine would burble and each cylinder would die differently. But it also sounded like someone just unplugged the common main 12v lead from the coils.

To complicate things further I have a relay system on my coils. Lots of connections to check.

Your relay may be overheating Steve. Sounds like ignition to me despite your plugs. You must be able to do the carbs blindfolded by now :)

Went through the connections. One bad one, cooked. I think you're right about the relay. I'll move it up front with the horn relay.

Changing to B8ES made a big difference. Set the needles in the center position and synced the carbs. One of the plugs I put in fell out. Blocked it off again.

Pulling strong. See what the plugs look like in a day or two.

How would one clean the crap out of the mercury? In 90 I was low on it so I got some from a friend. It had been used to clean silver but it has some black crap in it.

Checked the plugs. Much cleaner but #3 was leaner than the others still. Decided to put in the next size larger main jets. Still looking for that peanut butter color.
