Like the subject line suggests I need help identifying a set of carbs and I was told this is where the most knowledgeable were.

I bought a bike and got an extra set of carbs. I cleaned them up and the markings are as follows:

"Mikuni" "29" "A7"

I used the following sites as resources:
www.postdiluvian.org/~mason/moto/jetting.html
www.motorcyclecarbs.com/images/mikuni/ca...w/vm29explviewLG.gif

I attached a few pictures also. I really appreciate any help. I feel like I have done my research but I get a feeling that I should ask the experts before making assumptions about what I have here.

Thanks everyone!

Are you the guy who lives in Texas? The one who bought the 200 dollar z? Yeah, those are smoothbore carbs for sure.
There were two stock sizes for the kz's they started out with the z1 as 28's then went to the 26mm later in 80 they did the 28's again but the 29's were definitely the way to go. These were on the kz?

Hello, BrockSamson, and WELCOME to KZrider! :cheer:

After clicking on the following link, may scroll down to info and settings for Mikuni 29 smoothbore carbs.

If desired, there is a plethora of info here on KZr about these carbs.

First, thank you very much for the responses and friendly welcomes!

I picked these up in North VA and to be honest came off a Honda CB750. If you Kawi guys don't mind I would like to stick around and document my rebuild effort on the carbs and get advice as I go through the process.

Last night I drained the fuel using those bolts on the bottom of the float bowls and opened up the float bowls (gaskets were shot). I also noticed very minimal tool marks. I am thinking that they are still jetted/configured for the kz1000 which might be good for a 750 with 4-1 exhaust and pods.

I am going to break them down further tonight and will be sure to post pictures.

Ok I am going through the list of parts I have for the rebuild:

Are there any other parts I should consider replacing? Also the Needle Jets are very expensive (15.75 Each). Should I replace them just as a precautionary measure? I want to get a good range of pilot and main jets in the case I am wrong about my tuning assumptions. This rebuild is getting very expensive...either way I do not want to be missing anything important, so let me know if there is something I probably should add to this.

All are in quantities of 4.

Gasket MC Top
Gasket Float Chamber
O-Ring Float Drain
[strike]17.5 Pilot Jets[/strike]
20.0 Pilot Jets
25.0 Pilot Jets
115.0 Main Jets
[strike]117.5 Main Jets[/strike]
120.0 Main Jets
0.9 Air Jet
Jet Needles 5DL31-3
Needle Jets O-6

Thanks again!

Edit:
I will probably be dropping the 17.5 Pilot Jets and 117.5 Main Jets.

I would recommend that you do replace the needle jet and jet needle. That jet needle acts like a file on the needle jet and over time the hole becomes oblong and makes tuning very difficult. I know they are expensive, but you will forget about that money when your bike is running sweet.

EDIT: Also be VERY careful when screwing the needle jets into the jet blocks! The threads are extremely easy to strip. Actually, you are very lucky if they are not stripped already on one or more of the jet blocks. I know mine were.

I see you said be careful with the needle jets and main jets. I should be careful with both?

Also, when you say be careful you are saying to just get them in there and not over tighten? Or to just be gentle?

If they are stripped what must be done to fix the problem?

Another question. My bike has a single pull throttle cable that did work with the VM29 carbs. I just assumed that it was pull only (probably showing my inexperience), but after an email to Sudco I am being told I need to have both the push and pull cables and throttle assembly.

I see they offer the Motion Pro Push/Pull throttle assembly and cables. Anyone have experience with using these?
