Is there an easy way to get to the inner two drain screws without having to take the bowls off? Id rather not have to refill the carbs on the bench...

The fuel Bowls should be orientated to have the drain screws facing outwards. The two on the right face right, the two on the left face left. You need to have a constant fuel supply hooked up. So the bowl fills lifts the float and then the fuel will shut off. 12mm Below the gasket surface? That would be absolutely huge, is that possible? Make sure the flow of fuel to the carb while testing is keep up. The fuel should rise up the clear tube, but sometimes there is an Air bubble. Make sure of no Air bubble.

ok. i elevated the tank, hooked the gas to the carb inlet, set up my clear tubes, and leveled the carbs. when i put the petcock to prime to fill the carbs, the 3 and 4 carb started pouring gas out of the airbox side opening... does that mean my floats are stuck open on that side? god i hate this bike some days...

you need vaccum for the petcock to work when in the on position. prime will flow with gravity. I used a small funnel and put it in the end of the fuel line hooked to carbs and poured gas in till it was visible in the funnel. then check clear tube. when done just lower clear tube and drain gas back into gas can or suitable container. Sounds like sticking float needles. try tapping the bowls with the handle end of a screwdriver. sometimes that will loosen a stuck float needle. Good luck

alright. gotta get a funnel. if it pours out of the carb body when using the funnel? when i had it on prime is when the gas poured out of the carb opening..

hi steve, just reset the hi floats to be the same as the others. Now that you have the tank off, drain it, flush it out, remove the tap & clean out the filter(s)in the tap. Then do a fuel flow check into a measured jug over 10 sec.Get a figure an right it down.then repeat it, and get a average. Then add a inline fuel filter & repeat the flow test.I have discovered that fuel filters drop flow by 33%.IE was 150mls no filter then 100MLS with a filter)it didnt matter if it was a paper pleated filter or a sintered filter big or small.THEY ALL knocked flow by a heap!Keep this in mind if you ever trying to rejetting a carb.It can be running out of fuel in the bowl which can confuse you into making wrong decisions.Wayne australia kz900
