Lou you got me thinkin' so I went to Gearing Commander and plugged in my info. I'm running a 180/55R17 rear tire. I have converted to 530 chain and have an 18/40 combo on the sprockets. So that breaks down like this:
2:08 = 15mph in first gear
2:15 = 47mph in second gear
2:18 = 72mph in third gear
2:22 = 75mph in fourth gear
2:30 = 84mph in fifth gear

I don't have a working speedometer, and knew I was over the speed limit, but 84

Are you saying these are your top speeds in each gear?
This cant be right...

I've got 50mph in first gear easy / not redline, and i have pushed her to 110-115mph but she gets pretty damn squirrelly... though she begs to go faster.

Wherever your getting to, it must be pretty damn quick!

Looks to me like the numbers on the left are the time points in the previously posted graph. so at 2:18 into the run the bikes speed was 72 mph and it was in third gear.

Steel got it. The numbers in the left column correspond the time on the previous screen capture when the rpm peaks just before an upshift. The speed listed is the current speed, not max.

Just updating this for my purposes, so I can remember what I changed. The bike seemed to be a little on the lean side at higher throttle settings on the last run. It was hovering in the 15-16:1 range the few times that I was able to hold the throttle open. So I will install #122.5 main jets and leave everything else the same. Needles on the fourth clip, #17.5 pilots. I'm shooting for about 12.5:1 on the power for optimum performance. Hopefully we'll have a warm afternoon on Sunday, and I'll feel well enough to ride. I gotta date with the oral surgeon on Friday. :X

Thanks, I'll need it. I'm getting the remainder of my wisdom teeth extracted. At least I don't have to be conscious this time. I'm sure that my weekend will be a blast.

WOT is sort of a special situation. Holding it WOT means the AFR will change with RPM. Since that is obviously a condition where you want max power, you want to spend as much time as possible in the 12.5 range. But this means it will have to start out slighlty richer and end up slightly leaner. I originally aimed for 12.5 when the RPMs were near redline, but I've backed off. The AFR was spending too much time in the 11's before the RPMs got high enough to get the AFR into the 12's. Now I usually end up just a tad over 13 while holding WOT approaching redline (on a mid-temperature day). That's just where I ended up. Obviously you are going to go through the jetting and arrive at your own conclusion on what's best.

Another big thing to double check: make sure when the throttle is at the WOT stop, the slide's bottom is just flush with the roof of the carb bore. I've found they are often set so the slide can go higher than the roof bore. This was giving me goof results where the AFR would go super rich but only at WOT. Just under WOT is was normal. Since the slide was opening past the roof of the bore, the needle was letting in more fuel, but no more air could get in. The AFR plummets. It also made for a starnge phenomenon while riding. As I would roll-off from WOT, the bike would speed up... a little unsettling when you are already deep 3-digits :) .

Ouch. Make sure his name is not Needleman. :)
(From SNL in case anyone is wondering.)

Good points again. It's funny that you mention about the throttle going past fully open. I initially noticed that my TPS linkage had limited some of the range on the twist grip. Upon further investigation I discovered that it limited it to fully open, when I had been going past full throttle since the stop had not been properly adjusted.

One thing that I have been meaning to mention, is that I have no intention of racing this bike, and so my concern about full throttle performance is secondary. I really want the bike tuned to have crisp throttle response through the midrange, so I'm more concerned with the AFR at part throttle settings. It's my understanding that the main jet selection affects the needles, so I'm trying to get the mains as close as possible. Then I'll focus my efforts at getting needles right, and on to the pilots if they get affected at all. I'm also stalling a little since it's too cool outside to be representative of my normal riding conditions. I would like to get the bike right at 85*F that would be middle of the road for a normal riding season here. Keep in mind that I will get 3 solid months of high temperatures approaching 100*F during the summer. I don't want to be tuned right on in February and then be fouling plugs in July.
