Sorry guys, but APE isn't selling what they claim to be...

I just got mine in the mail today and they are not the oval filters as they picture on the website and as shown here. They are instead round pod-filters that appear to be essentially the same thing as EMGO pods... They are NOT the oval filters that are shown here in this thread and on APE's website.

They don't have nearly the filter area that the pictured filters... I wish somebody at APE would have been kind enough to tell us that they aren't like what's shown on their website.

Sorry, I did not see the above posts... I was pretty upset and wanted to post asap about what I recieved in the mail. I'm sure the APE people know there stuff, but this just doesn't sit well with me. It's not what I paid for or wanted.

I'm not too upset with the filter shape. I'm really concerned that they may not stay on. A simple mold change, or however they are made, to make a lip for the hose clamp and ribs to grip the carb. and they would be a good quality filter. APE Jay, if you are reading, what say you? I'm not trying to bash APE here. Jay, does anyone working there have a set of these on a working KZ, with good results?

they will stay on if you use the stock clamps no problem the main reason for the taper is for fitting under early 900 side covers the oval ones don't the early covers are smaller than the 76 and up. are they one piece or do they come apart. also i have been buying ape parts for close to 20 years and the one thing i can say about them is they dont sell junk.

If the element is paper like a KN then they are not emgos. As far as I can tell the emgos are just wire mesh.

The element appears to be a cotton fabric type like the K&N.

I think they should stay. I mean your radiator hose on your car stays on and its under pressure. I think you'll be fine as long as your not trying to hang on them.

Do you guys think these APE filters will fit the kz650?? I have had it with EMGO and I decided on going with the K&N but if these APE filters fit then I am going with them. As long as they are the cotton element like K&N I dont see a problem with the APE. Emgo is just paper junk.

Give APE a call. www.aperaceparts.com/contact.html I believe the size you need is a tad smaller. I'm thinking you would need an inside dia. of 40mm. Mine were 42mm.

My final thoughts on the filters are good. :)
Quality of everything is good. The fitment concern of mine(coming off) is no longer a concern. The filters slipped right on, perfectly. They stayed on. I did 55 MPH riding for about 20 minutes with a few 0-90 MPH takeoffs.

These are good to go in my opinion.
