Amazing price! Sometimes you get lucky!
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I was told the green 78 did 17k and it was a usa bike which meant it wasn't originally that color. From what I can find only early japan made bikes were green or red with usa bikes being red or black

If my memory is correct, (it was long ago) the KZ1000s left the Lincoln Factory either green or red. The beautiful, IMO, black paint set became available to purchase from the dealer as an accessory. I bought a "traded in" brand new, red set from the local dealer to put on my 1976 KZ. I don't recall whether or not the black sets were painted in Lincoln or not.

Thanks for posting Ronnie, probably more accurate information than my almost 50 y.o. memories! I didn't remember an A2-A, apparently the end of the production year run?

Some good info is coming to light here. I bought my A1A in 1979 with 17,000 kms on it. I'm just shy of 90,000 now. It wasn't until I joined this forum that I found out that black is a 1978 colour. It's been listed as black on my registration since I bought it and I'm sure it has never been in an accident. I'm wondering if either the original owner or the shop that sold it ordered a black accessory kit before it was sold in the case of the dealer or after the fact, in the case of the seller. It's always been a mystery to me.

Re: Six Kawasaki Z2 and Mecum auction
Yesterday 15:40Long ago, when I was visiting my local Kawasaki dealer and contemplating buying a new 1978 KZ1000B2, I noted that the dealer had a new set of black bodywork, like yours, for sale to those wanting to change their 1977/1978 bodywork for the rarer black bodywork. I suspect that this is what happened in your case. Some good info is coming to light here. I bought my A1A in 1979 with 17,000 kms on it. I'm just shy of 90,000 now.
