The first run lasted about ten minutes.  I had the Morgan pre-installed for sync, and was pleasantly surprised how little adjustment was needed.

Thanks for the advice Wookie.  I'll check head torque before today's ride.

Next project, will check/adjust valve lash and change the oil...before bedtime.

I would retorque for sure.  Base gasket can compress, not just the head gasket.

The video suggests some random knocking noise.  Hope that's nothing...

Retorque was needed!  Every fastener moved 1/3 to 1/2 turn, including the two M6 bolts.

I believe the random noise apparent in the video was carb sync related.  I will listen for abnormal sounds and report back on that.

I'd RIDE THE PISS OUT OF IT
Okay, but I'll take it easy the first mile or two.

What about re-torque of the cylinder stud nuts...when should that be done, or is it necessary with the MLS head gasket and 38 foot pounds already applied?
Thought of going back through with 40 for the added sense of security.  Had 42 on the old motor with Cometic fiber gaskets and o-rings.

I had to retorque my MLS head gasket three times.

Will double  triple check that for sure!

Got an oil bath during the first ride.

Blew a quart everywhere...
Sure glad that I stopped at the rest area to warm myself up, otherwise things would have turned out differently.

Did the bolts "back themselves out" - not just a leak but a sloppy timing chain too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep.  Was cruising along about 80 mph before exiting the highway and parking in the big truck zone.  Nothing unusual alerted me of the problem, just shiny black boots and wet engine covers staring back at me when I dropped the kickstand.  Hmmm, didn't recall hitting any water puddles...GRRR!!!

Didn't take long to figure out what happened, but then I was only a half-hour from home...drenched rear tire and all.

Where would I be without my loving wife who awaits my calls for help, and the guardian angel who saved my engine...and quite likely again, my life!

😊

Same thing happened to me on the first ride. Managed to tighten it up and go one my way. If it it fell out it would have been one FK'ed up day.

Probably worth a compression check since you have lumpy cams just in case it kissed a valve !!!!:(

Re-torqued to 40 ft. lbs.
Half broke loose and moved more...
Will check again after a few hot rides next year.

Good advice, however, after retightening the bolts she fired right up and ran like new again.  Never skipped a beat all the way home, and didn't leak another drop of oil.

The J-motor is a beast!

Wookie was Absolutely Correct!! If i'd noted that the tensioner was backed out that far i would of been super concerned! You just got plum lucky, buy a poor mans tax ticket, aka Lotto Ticket stat.
