Well I don’t know what the heck I got in there because the valve springs measure taller than the book say’s also. Am I doing the math correctly in measuring the cam lift? 264 seems awful short.

Are there any marking on the ends of the cams?

Base circle dimension is 1.110 Minus your total base to tip length should be about 1.4307 per FSM. Equals about .320 lift for the intake.

There’s 4 stamped lines on the end of the cam, in a cross pattern. I measured again. My math was wrong. I have about an 8mm difference which is about .315ish. My micrometer is a cheapo so that’s as close as I can get.

I have a local who’s going to do valve work on the head and most important I trust him. Going to replace the valve seals of course but what’s with the Viton or Vesrah stuff?. Any do’s or do nots there?

Also, for the base and head gaskets, there’s a big difference out there in pricing. Any suggestions?

Crud, I’m going to have to get different size head gaskets aren’t I? I measure 71.5mm inside the gaskets that came off the the motor.

From what I see and other have mentioned, it appears you have stock 1015 pistons and possibly sleeves installed it a 903 cylinder block. You need to measure the OD of the sleeves to determine if they bored out the 903 or installed the 1015. Not sure if this would change your base gasket choice. But you should be able to use 1977-78 Kz1000 base and head gaskets.

Viton is a type of rubber compound, highly recommend using Viton stem/valve seals.

Vesrah is a gasket manufacturer. I’ll let other speak to their personal opinions on Vesrah vs Cometic. Obviously OEM is the best.

As best I can measure, I’m getting 78mm/3.07 inside the cylinder. When the cylinder is cold, like in the morning, the liners won’t slide out. If I put it in the sun, they slide out. Odd

That won't hurt anything. They are trapped between the head and block. My 903's spun when they were bored out. They ran fine in the bike.

Unless someone can respond quicker, after work today I’ll big up a stock 903 and 1015 block and measure the sleeves OD. This is a fact finding mission for me as well. Zed1015 said the 1015 sleeves OD is bigger but I don’t know the measurements.

EDIT; from the picture the sleeve wall looks thick. You might have 1015 sleeves.

Something like this (as mentioned by Zed1015) might help with reassembly so the liners don't move when inserting the pistons (dependent on temperature)

Those liners are not stock 903 or 1015 either so the block has been bored out to fit aftermarket ones.
Possibly LA Liners.
1015 liners are 76mm at their widest so with these being 78 are suitable for up to 1200cc max - 76mm bore.

As for the liner fit -
If they don't move when cold you are ok..

Stock cam lift is around 8.6 mm.

The 903 spigots are smaller needing a o ring and the top flange is smaller than on the 1015 sleeves.
