The term, performance roller crank, is not used around here, so there may be a definition I am not aware of. At any rate, there several performance upgrades commonly done on roller bearing cranks, depending on the owner’s budget and intended use.
I think a majority go for indexing, trueing and welding. That insures that the crank is straight, that the throws are the correct number of degrees apart and then it is all welded together.
A race bike may also have the crankshaft lightened, have special rods installed. APE even offered a knife edge option that was a real work of art.

With today's exorbitant cost of shipping excluded, what $hould a person expect to pay for a J-model or ZX1100A crankshaft professionally welded?

On the APE web site they list #LC808 "complete rebuild and welding 4 cyl roller cranks" from $1000

www.racecranks.com/

I guess it depends on whom is doing the work, some guys will be cheaper if it is just welding and no further upgrades. I would think a straight weld job may start at the $300 range.
Used welded cranks on Ebay are usually going for about $400.

In what ways are original factory built 18mm wrist pin ZX1100A crankshafts considered superior (or inferior) to 17mm wrist pin J-model crankshafts?

Pearson in Ohio quoted me $500 for a Kz 15T 17mm crank to clean, index, and weld. Not included my shipping cost to him.

I have had two early KZ1000 cranks welded locally for $150 each (friend price) indexed and trued to within .004"

The welds :

Good enough for light drag or hot street. That guy has retired.

Gardner charges $1250 to inspect, clean, index, weld. Any parts are extra. We had two cranks done by him and the work is good. I noticed APE is advertising crank rebuild service but that must be fairly currant. They were not doing pressed cranks in the not so distant past. I tried to contact Pearson at one point but he never returned any calls.

Pearson mentioned the number on the rods is like a lot number of some type. He mentioned that rods with close numbers (50’s to 60’s) are ok to swap around. Numbers with large spreads (50’s to 100’s) are not interchangeable on the same crank. The way I understood it, it was somewhat of a weight concern in the lots. This came about when talking about using two crankshafts I have to build on good one. One has good bearings and a couple bad rod small ends, the other has good small ends but a couple bad bearings. Pearson said as long as the rod numbers are close he could do it.

Looking at those welds I would think there will be no twisting on that.

A reliable source suggested it looks like a Falicon crank.  What that means specifically I am unable to speculate.

The P.O. said that the donor engine was removed from service thirty years ago when it had just 3K miles on it.
I have to agree, based on the like-new condition of other related components included with my purchase.

Here is a real Falicon

KZ 1000 crank
Ultra lite Supercrank
Round journals have been cut to porkchop 900 style to lighten
Then journals are knife edged to cut thru oil mist and air
Whole  thing is highly polished
All the normal crank work to rods ,bearings, welding , truing, indexing and of course  magic dust  LOL
