Ya, if i was you id try to drop the compression down some. Iam currently building a 1327 motor and iam making it 9 to 1 with a ported j model head. With lower compression it will run cooler and you will be able to run 93 pump gas without knock or other detonation problems.

I ran a 1197 13.5-1 motor on the street, on pump gas and it lived okay. 125 web cams, decent ported head and 33 smooth bore carbs. You lug the motor and it got hot real quick. Had total timing set at 34 deg. I believe. I would bump it up on good fuel at the track. In reality, it was a bear to ride on the street and lower compression would have helped a bunch! Button start, only if it felt like it, if not, somebody help me PUSH!

I was thinking a kz 13 starter would have enough ass to turn it over and if not the 9 has a kicker also

Isn't it some Honda starter that is used to crank the bigger motors?

cb1100F and cb900F honda starters, There is a certain wattage to look for, I believe it's the 9 watt. I believe KZ's had 6 watt and 750 hondas hade 7 watt. Just reclock the end of it and it drops in, some people have to do some trimming to get clearance for the power cable.

Rowdymk2 wrote: I am either gonna use a j model head or the 900 head ported not really sure what size valves to get or or what cam would even be the best I have my eye on the Andrews 2x but I am not afraid to modify the the head and go bigger . I want this build to make a radical street machine that will cruise around town and have enough power to run some of the newer bikes out . This bike is not my main transportation . 125 is at the wheel I hope . I was kind of shooting for around 150 . I stretched a swingarm 6 over witch will be going on tomorrow if time is on my side before I go to work. This is the first time I have ever built a bike engine other than oem rebuild so any pointers would great . And please leave out the buy a zx10 and 13.5:1 is not gonna be good on the street commentary . Because I know that with the right cam and carb combo it will be fine . This is not a touring rig thanks in advance

If you use a J model head you will have to use J model pistons or the compression will be considerably lower due to the larger tub size of the combustion chambers. APE told me that unless your running a big block there is not much to gain with the J model head.

Bought my 1973 Z1 in late 1978. Turbo charged 1982.
