On my bike, you can kill it by putting the ignition advancer assembly on 180 out. Don't know if yours is the same? Still sparks, but on the wrong stroke.

Are you actually seeing spark at the plugs? Any possiblility the cam timing is off a tooth?

If not already done, would assure correct coil wiring.

If timing advancer was removed and replaced, would assure that the rotor is positioned correctly, and not 180° off.
( I see where bountyhunter had already suggested this. )

Good Fortune! :)

Also on that diagram, does it matter which terminals the wires go to. like green on the outside red/yellow inside?

It had been running when I bought it and I actually blew a piston driving it back to my house the day I bought it . I drained the gas and went through the carbs and soaked them and bench sync them.

It doesn't matter, because the coil primary winding terminals are non-polar.

The concern in the case at hand is not so much about the existence of good spark as it is about the timing of the good spark.

If the plug wires from the coils are attached to the wrong plugs, or if the signal wires are reversed by being attached to the wrong coil, or if the advancer rotor is 180° off, the timing of the good spark will be incorrect.

Good Fortune! :)

Often after an overhaul, you need to give each cylinder a small squirt of oil, just to seal the rings, then give her a start.
The down side to this, is you often then soot up the plugs quickly!

Definately sounds like a timing issue as the other members stated. Either ignition or valve

Bought my 1973 Z1 in late 1978. Turbo charged 1982.

There is life! I got it to sputter, im pretty sure it the carbs. I put fuel into the cylinders and got it to sputter and I also got it to sputter when using a little started fluid. I went ahead and checked the timing too. Im attaching photos to just make sure yall dont see anything out of whack.

Hard to say for sure but it looks like you could be to far advanced. Those points should just open at the "F" mark, which you have it on the "T".
but good to here it will try, probably need to pull the carbs and clean them. Clean the fuel tank and petcock. Maybe put on new line, and a in-line filter for a gravity feed system, not for a pump.
