Yes, provided it's a good fully charged battery, until the battery runs down.

A good fully charged battery will power a bike's ignition system for quite a long time.
Some road racers run with a total loss electrical system without any charging components.

Good Fortune! :)

Checking performance of the charging system may be done by measuring voltage between the battery posts with the engine running at 3~4000 rpm, which voltage should be 14+ volts DC.
A good fully charged battery should be used when testing.

Too high may result from a defective regulator (or faulty wiring).

Too low may result from a defective rectifier and/or alternator (or faulty wiring).

Good Fortune! :)

If you're going through electrical stuff, I would recommend finding a post by MFOLKS. He has a huge rundown on how he recommends going through and cleaning things. Looks through the electrical section, shouldn't take too long to find one.

Also, just curious, can any one tell what body type this bike is? I am going to try and find a wiring manual to understand it better. Didn't know if the body type or style is important. All i know its a kz750.

I was thinking either that or an 82 GPZ 750 www.bikepics.com/kawasaki/gpz750/82/pics.asp

So hard to tell with all that black

I think the GpZ 750 had clip-on style handlebars rather than a single bar. If it's an '83 KZ750-L3 the fairing has been added (maybe from a GpZ) to make it look very much like a GpZ. Maybe the VIN would shed some light on it. Ed

Ok, some results or updates and thanks for all the responses. For the first point, I inspected the battery and it held a good charge. The ground seemed find with good "continuity" i guess. However as i was tracking the positive line/wire it came up to the starter relay, which then went to the starter motor. This was a round plastic piece that had to wires going to it. (I will post a picture but my ipod is being stupid. It looks it has calicum all over it and it seems bulging with this white dry/ashey/powder looking substance. (lol sorry best i could describe.) I believe this is the starter motor. However there is a simliar piece right next to it which i think is the starter lockout switch which looks decent. The starter motor looks horrible. Picture will show it, sorry. Best way to replace this piece.

Second note, the vin says its and 83'. But no specific body type came up. Thanks

Here are the pictures of what I am taalking about. What i believe is the starter motor is the corroded white one  . Think this is the reason why the engine is not clicking? Thanks so much.

lol no that's a flasher relay it shouldn't have any impact on why it's not starting. There's a lot of corrosion all over the place (white stuff) take some cola and a old tooth bush and scrub it clean. Is the white stuff all over the battery posts?? or wires??

never mind I see it but move the boots back and connect the two posts with a screw driver and see if the starter spins. Be careful tho it can shock the hell out of you if you touch the metal on the screwdriver. Trust me from my mistake lol
