Taking that a step further, there's just something that rings when you say "Z1."

2000 ZRX 1100
1976 KZ 900- Daily Driver
1980 LTD 550- Dalton Highway survivor!

If it has tits or tires, it'll give you problems!

I have a 1978 kz1000 a2. She runs great with the stock engine and I just built 29mm smoothbore and ironed out some turbulent issues due to pod filters and 4 into 1. The 29mm carbs coupled with a Henry Abe breadbox dis the trick. I rejetted the stock 26mm carbs at least a dozen times. And though it ran great. On occasion turbulence would cause some issues.
Looking for a spare engine I bought an entire kz1000 Ltd that had been passed around before I got it, it was dark when I arrived to look at it. Ibought the bike on a gamble When I got it home I discovered she had 29 smoothbores. Took the valve covers off to realize she has z2 cams ,and looking closer at it, its apparent that the heads have been ported. I have sand blasted and painted the engine and am preparing to remove all covers, and replace all gaskets, it looks like the transmission has been into based on the red silicone present on the engine
I am assuming this engine has at least a 1075 kit based on the other factors. I am wondering if anyone knows the approximate horsepower of the 78 kz1000 engine. Z2 cams, 1075 kit, heads ported and polished, how much power difference over the stock engine will I get?

On average around 100 to 120 hp depending on condition, type of exhaust fitted and how it's set up.
Power should give you a good kick up the arse compared to stock.
