The helical gear primary drive was used to quell gear noise. But it's down side is the tendency to want to push the basket off the end of the input shaft.

Both the crank & clutch basket can be converted to straight cut setup.

Yep... I hear ya on that. They will run dam hard with some tweaks. Ugly IMO but they will run. And nobody ever made a better shifting transmission than Suzuki did.... JMO
