i did a 24 hour ice race years ago with a xs650 twin flat tracker in the last hour it started to use a bit of oil so after we got it back home we tore it down and when i pulled the barrel of both sets of rings fell into the bottom of the engine so how could it even have run is beyond me.

years ago i had my old faithfull 61 chevy k30 4x4 dumptruck with a respectable running 400 chevy smallblock that would puff just a little when youd first start it,so i decided to do a good set of heads with a valve job high rise intake, headers and cam to wake it up a little .the damn thing always ran around 60psi of oil pressure so i figured bottem end was solid and was gonna leave it alone. B) well in typical gearhead fashion i ended up tearing into the bottem end anyway and come to find out half the rings in it were broke! from there i decided one of hye tech performances 415 smallblock kits would be perfect with a .510 lift cam a good set of heads would be perfect ! :woohoo: thats also where the name of my plumbing co HYE TECH UTILITIES inc came from.anyway i figured every 1 ton 4x4 dumptruck should have a 450hp motor

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

I had a friend i use to work for and he had a Dodge Dually we called "Goat".

He had a "67" GTX that he raced. He built a new motor for the car and we installed the old engine in the "Goat". Was a lot of FUN!!!!

I've seen a lot of rings broken upon installation. Thats my guess. Each piston has 4 rings...so it will run with one of them missing completely. It will just use a little oil or lose a little compression on that cylinder.Since the middle ring is the one missing,it would still run fine but was probably a little low on compression on that cylinder. If you thought it ran good with missing rings....you will really like it with all the parts included! :woohoo:
Those chunks of metal in the pan don't look good. Is that iron or aluminum? They stick to a magnet? My guess would be aluminum. If you broke those rings while installing the cylinder those ring pieces probably gouged out some aluminum from the case as they went past the crank and into the pan. Clean the pan out, hone the cylinders and install a fresh set of rings and you should be ok.Just make sure you don't break any rings this time.

Well we can sit and discuss theories all day long for weeks to come but one thing for sure.....

You thought your KZ ran well before, pulled strong, power etc.... Wait till you get her all fixed up and dialed in.... When you twist that throttle.... hold on!

Shit brother, your grin will be so wide it will split your helmet... :woohoo:

Brings a tear of joy to ones eyes when another KZ is put back to life don't it....
