"Seems like the motorcycle gods didn't diarrhea on me after all, just a little sh!t."....

You're only lucky SOB.... KZ Gods are with you...:woohoo:

Well, one thing to measure is the play in the rods and with a feeler gauge, piston to cylinder wall clearances...
Maybe this was large enough for the ring piece to slip by which would explain a few things....

I don't have a PS manual but I do have the KZ900/1000/1100 manual procedures may be close to the same if you need the procedures... Let me know...

Ok, so I got in there today, and well, nothing definitive, at least to me. I posted all the pics I took in case someone sees something I don't. I'll inspect the cylinder more tomorrow. I found the other half of the ring still on the piston. The piston looks good and doesn't seem to have any more travel than the others. The only difference I notice is it has less carbon build up, whatever. There's a pic of the metal in the pan. I'm going to inspect that more because I have a suspicion it may not be from the ring. I'll be looking this thing over with a fine tooth comb tomorrow. Just thought I'd post the info now.

that second pic is downright funky.....you see bits like that stuck to plug if its pinging real bad...not a herd of em stuck to top of piston.....detonation will kill ringlands as well piston tops, but they dont look bad ...just half a ring gone....what does the head look like?...got a pic?.....how that half a ring skated out without major damage is a mystery for the ages!!!..good luck...keep us posted......keith

the little vertical scratches in the cylinder and piston are caused by dirt when the piston's were installed i'd run a hone thru it and put in a fresh set of rings if the cylinders measure up alright. and replace your valve seals.

are you sure you didnt break the ring when you installed the cylinder and didnt catch it falling into bottem end? your piston skirt doesnt drop that far below the sleeve when motor is running to allow ring to drop off like that ;) when you reassemble the motor i like to scrub down the cylinders with carb cleaner and toilet paper, keep scrubbing till you dont get any more black crud on the toilet paper.i prefer toilet paper not only becuz im a plumma, but because it doesnt leave lint behind like shop rags do B)

I do wonder what that solder is, but I can guess I dropped it in there some how. I'm just guessing that the ring broke on the up stroke and got pushed down and out. I can't imagine it ran great for 2 years and then all of a sudden lost compression. That build up on the pistons is consistent with every piston I've ever seen. But you are right, that is a funky pic. Damn digital cameras. I guess I'll do some more inspection, check some measurements, hone it, put in some new rings and see where it goes. I have to wait a little for gaskets to come in but I'll update after its back together. Thanks all for your assistance.

Theres no way that ring came out unless the cylinders are way loose. When u first ran the motor did u notice power at around six grand would come and go? any plug fouling on that cylinder? Like plummen said, the top ring was making any compression it had. That ring issue is from not being careful and sliding on the cylinder jugs by yourself without anyone to hold the weight. Rush in there and mess something else up! BAA HAAA HAAA!

The ONLY way that ring got into the bottom end is if YOU BROKE THE RING LAST TIME YOU PUT THE CYL. ON .

UH, sure guys. found another broken ring, on piston 4. I'm just wondering how a bike runs for 2 years with 2 busted rings.
