Overheating help was created by Silver Tiger
I know there are other posts on overheating and oil coolers but i wanted to try to get a more specific answer.

I have a 1974 z1 it has a kz1000 jug 1045 10.25:1, port and polished, over sized valves,36mm mikuni flatslides, dyna 2000 and coils, largest hotstreet web cams sold, taylor wires, ngk iridium plugs standard heat range. completely rebuilt last year

basically i don't know what temperature a kz1000 a should run at. my heat gun reads about 295 to 305 on the head and 240 on the jug, it warms up quickly and stays constant. i tested a friends kz1000 with similar modification and it was running around that as well. ive had my bike dyno'd (if any one wants to read the chart i could post) it is a little rich in bottom end and dead on in the top end, the bike isnt running lean, but after i ride it around for about a hour or so it starts getting hard to shift between gears and doesnt like to idle and the engine feels pretty hot the heat gun still only says around 300. im running 10w40 amsoil in it right now and going to switch to 20w 50 next oil change.
I don't have a oil cooler and id like to install one, but i still don't know what size to put on it and how to run the oil channels. also i know a z1's oil pressure is only like 10 psi so would that be a problem with a oil cooler? ive tested my oil pressure i get about 12 to 15psi around 4000 rpm.
sorry if my text is confusing and thxs for any replys

My 82 GPZ1100 B2 came stock with an oil cooler and the ELR's do too. My engine has about 2.8 PSI oil pressure when fully warm. If you can get a wrecked ELR or a GPZ1100 I'd imagine the lines and oil cooler would almost bolt right up.

Have you been to www.americamclassix.com or:http://www.holley.com/types/Temp-A-Cure%20Oil%20Coolers.asp

Americanclassix has the fittings you need. You can always find a cooler on ebay and get the lines at any auto parts store. Make sure your timing is spot on. What plugs are you running? Some bikes just run hot-like mine. Putting thicker oil in might not be the answer. I used 20/50 in mine and it made it worse. Last summer I rode up to Canadia and it ran hot and pinged all day. We changed the oil to 10/30 the next day and went on a 6 hours ride and it ran great. Some people say a cooler isn't needed until you get up in the 12000cc range, but I know my bike will benifit from one and it sounds like yours will to.

Here's the route I'm taking...

NOTE: You can order in various line fittings!

The GPS1100 oil cooler are 5-7 row coolers so this will be more than enough. Earls are also available in 7 row....
JCWhiteny also carried Earl coolers... They're not that expensive!

American Classix has the adapters, expensive but well made and being an extremely important component for engine lubrication and cooling... ;)

i hate to ask but what line fittings do you recommend especially what would fit on the American classix part, like with the stainless steel lines in the picture
