The KZ twins do pressurize the crankcase, then create a vacuum, because both pistons move up and down together.

I know, I watched the oil blowing out of mine when the gasket cracked....

You could try a little rtv silicone on the motor side of the gasket to hold it in place.
The blow by will improve as the rings seat.
But the fact is as u increase cc's u are going to get more blow by.
As the ring start to where as u increase mileage the blow by will again , increase. the added crankcase pressure will increase the likelihood of oil leaks.
Do yourself a favor and increase the crankcase venting now.
There are a few dif ways, Kick start hole ,added vent on cam cover, oil fill hole. I chose to increase the capacity of the stock unit. Hear is a link to my project , it shows my added vents.
Pg, 5,6.
If u want to go with the kick start hole, i will give u the parts and filter .

I don't know how I missed that thread - excellent looking bike! I think I'll pass on the kick vent but thanks. Your ticket has scared me away from that one! I never would have guessed you could get a ticket for that. What a crock. Thanks for the breather tips. I think more venting is in order. Problem is, I put my starter back in and I like it!

Does anyone know (maybe ape jay??) if the APE low profile cover vents more pressure than the factory kz breather? I'd be willing to go back to it and run a hose to the back of the bike if it would help. I only took it off because it was spewing oil out of the filter on the end of a short hose.

I once got a ticket for having a smudged driver's license.... not license plate, driver's license. I wanted to ask the little dork how he could see that with it being in my wallet and all... but figured I would be wearing a flashlight handle if I did.

The APE low profile cover will not provide enough venting. They prevent venting, and alternative venting is expected to be used. Like the starter hole. That is my understanding. I read a post here somewhere ,where the user went the ape route and it caused oil leaks.

The A.P.E. breathers are available in vented and non-vented versions. I got the vented version and it has a fitting on it. It seems like it would vent more since there are no baffles at all, just a straight through vent. The picture below was my original set up and it shot oil out of the filter onto the engine. I'm thinking this set up with a much longer hose might have less pressure than the stock breather with the internal baffling. Could be? Maybe?

Per FSM, the oil breather serves two functions: (1) minimize pressure variations from piston and crankshaft movement, and (2) recycle blowby gas from combustion chambers to keep it from contaminating the engine oil.

The maze in the breather supposedly separates most of the blowby gas from the oil mist, allowing the oil to return to the crankcase and the gas to be drawn through the breather hose into the air cleaner housing and back through the carb intake.

Perhaps without the baffles, the oil mist and gas blowby could both be expelled to the atmosphere without any separation involved (to EPA's horror).

Good Luck! :)

I agree .the baffles are important to separate and return the oil to the case. U also need a larger vent to reduce the presure. Larger vent tube = less velosity, more volume.

Out of curiosity, how long should the tubing be (OEM) to the filter?

I have the OEM breather but the hose is nor more than 3" in length to the filter...

I looked this up at Babbit.com but they don't show this hose and filter in the fiche files.

i always just run a piece of clear vinyl hose up under battery box then loop it back down to keep water out,no need to install a filter ;)

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

It's an "S" shaped hose from top of vent to bottom of air box. :)

Ah crap, thanks Patton...

I saw that but didn't put the two together. This old girl didn't come with the OEM air cleaner... DOH! Actually, didnt come with pods either.

Learn something new everyday, have to love it. Maybe some day when I'm old and gray and I'll actually know something about these old monsters. LOL!

Kudos...
