Use Both Brakes

How many riders just don't practice braking enough to know to use both brakes?



Notice how the bike actually lands on his head and he still walks away.

I'm always amazed that so many riders don't realize 75% - 80% of the bike's stopping power is supplied by the front brake. I guess they somehow believe they are riding an old bicycle that only has a rear coaster brake. It always make me cringe when i see bikes that have had the front brake removed by the owner. What the heck are they thinking! Ed

He could have taken the hole shot and avoided the car ahead of him. You're right, he locked up his rear tire and was committed at that point. The close call I had last year was like that. I chose to go around only because I've ridden it in before. It never turns out well. :dry:

It makes me wonder is this sort of "accident" caused by ignorance or laziness?
When i got my motorcycle license, we were required to perform several handling maneuvers in a controlled environment. One such was to accelerate from a stop to a line on the road at which point you had to brake and stop before a 2nd line. You couldn't stop before that second line unless you knew to use both brakes properly.

He is very lucky to have walked away from that with only his pride dented and not his skull.

Looks like the bike landed on him. Too many guys buy a bike and don't learn how to ride it in situations like that.

There's a rear brake?I have the opposite habit of close to never using the rear brake. Probably almost as stupid.

The idiot was not paying attention, paniced, stomped on the rear brake and crashed. He had plenty of room and time to avoid this. But he did look cool doing it.
