That's mainly what talked me outta getting a ZZR 600 and going through my 650 instead...... a total panic stop with me grabbing the front brake and doing a stopie on my head. ;) ..... might still get a newer bike but with abs brakes to stop that.

The rear brake pedal is mostly there to make your right leg feel better. Every other limb gets something really important to do so the right leg whined and got a job. Not like I never use it but if you really, really need to stop your rear wheel ideally would be pretty close to lifting, ABS another story

You coulda gone around while braking. Lots of guys my age riding their first bike. They don't start with a small one, OH NOOO, they get a big one and go down. I can't tell you how many times I dropped my 350. By the time I got my Z1, I had that out of my system.

He's going to live a painful life riding a motorcycle if that is the normal panic braking routine. Now probably going to give up motorcycles because they are "too dangerous". Well he actually "layed it down" to avoid a collision as many goofballs swear is best technique.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I'm always looking ahead of the car in front of me and adjust my place accordingly. Also scanning the mirrors. That comes with time and on a bike it's imperative. Laying it down is an accident, that was negligence.

Pretty classic high side from overbraking the rear. Happens to a lot of people. I would say inexperienced with bike physics. The one that gets more of em dead tho is those that ride and have no idea of what countersteering is. As I look at this it appears he turns to the shoulder(right grip push) which caused the high side contributing with the bunch of rear break. Together these two things flip faster than chilly willys stack of flapjacks. R

Same here. I rarely touch the rear brake. The front provides something like 90% of the stopping power anyway.

Out here you go from pavement to dirt. I have to think about not using my front brake as I'm turning onto a dirt road. Riding position has a lot to do with it too. That guy was on a cruiser. He was ill equipped to make any sudden moves. Those bikes aren't built for that. They're cruisers. I defy any of them to go places I take my bike and get there unscathed. I've done it. There's a shooting area behind me. 2 miles of dirt road. By the time they catch up, I'm already set up and plunking. Two different worlds.

That guy was a novice.

I'd do a stoppie before that happened. 20+ years of MX and single track you learn how to brake.

The next time you are riding some lazy sweepers, try VERY LIGHT pressure on the front brake after you have the bike leaned over - it will help the turn in and reduce the radius of the turn. This works well when you stuff it too deep into the turn, but if you put too much pressure you WILL crash. The rear brake is useless here.....

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.
