I'd prefer to be first or last since just getting to the northern border of Maine is a 20 hour drive for me not including the 6 hour ferry ride. Coming down any distance into New England will make this a week long round trip trip for me rather than a long weekend.

A cross Canada trek would be great, hard to find enough guys west of Ontario though I'd say. Too many long lonely miles out on the prairies.

Riding a bike in Newfoundland? I have the deepest respect for you; that cannot be easy. Have you considered adding a bit of safety to your bike as shown on the BMW in the link below?

Bahahahahaha its not quite that bad, still around 55-60 degrees here in the daytime, lots of people still riding. You don't need to break out the skis til late November. Hell, last year there wasn't a drop of snow until late Jan.

Here's a hypothetical route (as the crow flies).

I know it doesn't showing Canada yet, but maybe this will stir some interest from others and their alternatives.

Your route above does go through Canada.
If I'm not mistaken, that's my balloon just above Toronto.

    Yes, and I should know that. Being that my wife is from Toronto. Even the route I posted is not practical by any means. Just put it up for conversation's sake. Need more riders in Canada and the U.S. Too many large gaps in a lot of places. Need to rally more riders in both countries.

I'm in London Ontario about 120 miles west of Rob in the Toronto area. Can't seem to get my computer to access my google account to put a balloon on the map yet - sent a email to them to get it straightened out and will add it if/when I can...

Should allow you to do so. Do you already have a Google account? Must have one to place a marker on the map. Otherwise someone else can place you on their for you. I would have but didn't want to take the liberty. ;)

What if...

If we got a rider or two in South Carolina and Georgia we could knock out an entire East Coast run.

From Newfoundland all the way to Miami.

By no means am I wussing out on the whole North American thing, but by spring we could pretty easily get the East Coast done.

I'm kind of surprised I just called a 2,600 mile relay run wussing out. That puts this little project in perspective.

where it just does not make sense for someone to try and bridge too large a gap say the big island to cali...ect....or way the f up into alaska.,..folks could gather the locals ride the island and next day the party to the land lovers....or mail it across a great lake ect....maybe not hand off exactly but is saves some poor fool losing an extra weeks pay cause some one drops out or gets sick ect..and they are miles from home and no one meets em....could happen....ect...keep the hot potatoe going at least...

worst case plans always help me ...i never need em ...almost....but seems to smooth the worries knowing there are back ups and other riders/members as we ride by....ect...

i just had a co-worker ride south america on his KTM ,,,knobbies and dirt roes for long sections....he was planning this for years and shipped tires ahead.....the whole 9 yards...

when he got back....he said the biggest waste ...was lugging shit around......he says next time he is gonna carry some tools...some food.....and credit card......he said he had shirts from salinas to the yucatan and back...he never unpacked em....said if he needs a shirt you can buy one along the way...he says all you need in 2011 to go anywhere on a bike...is a credit card....

Personally I think this could do the trick, get it rolling. As soon as the object is moving there will be more involvement. If you get the object moved along several states, get to an area where there is no support, someone may speak up.
I see there is now both a Kansas and Colorado Flag up on the Map, that's great. I still would like to see a Group Ride when it gets even close to the State Of Colorado. There is at least 5 members that I know are here, somewhat regularly, so maybe when the time comes?????

Hi Jack, I have posted your location as per your request. The closest riders to you are harn in Mi, hypnohio in Ohio and rstnick in Ont. Half way to harn or hypnohio is a bit of jaunt for you. But half, or all the way to Toronto would be a breeze.

jack, harm, hypnoohio and ramtough_63 are all in easy riding distance for me, ram is not too far from a riding buddy of mine in Murray Ky. I would assume most relayers would meet somewhere other than their home base point anyway. It all depends on the direction this thing goes, does it really matter if it goes zig-zag across the states as long as all volunteers get to participate? Seems more positive for it to involve members than just have touched or crossed a state.
