That's a good idea. One of the guys at my shop had his Harley done that way. He took the seat and a piece of leather to the upholstery guy, and had them make a really awful, embroidered seat cover. Not my style, but the workmanship is good. I might go that route in the future.

I ain't gonna lie, that seat is real comfortable, and it's in really good shape. It will be gone in the future. It won't fit the style of the finished product.

The PO drilled out the baffles, so it does sound pretty mean. I'll just run it like that for now. There's one little ding in the exhaust, but otherwise the pipes seem good. I would like to have a 4-1 in the future, but the budget for this one is pretty low.

I went ahead and stripped off the green paint last night. Since I torched the paint on the tank by pouring out the nasty gas. I hate having rattlecan paint on tanks, and I didn't care for the color. I'll shoot some real paint on it, and I can clear it a the same time I re-do the clear on my KZ tank.

New bars should be here Tuesday, so I should have a mini transformation in short order.

Would kz900/1000/1100 exhausts fit that? the head spacings were similar right?

Nice score on the Zuk. I have an 81 GS1100L that I call my utility bike. Looks hidious but always starts and has never stranded me yet. I put a set of stock KZ900 handle bars, modified the backrest from my KZ650 to fit and added a Vetter fairing so I could have a radio. The engine is dependable and I have had no issues with the charging system even though I run a radio. Mine has almost 40,000 on it and I would expect it to go for quite a while longer. Keep the valves adjusted and you should have a dependable bike for kickin around town.

9am53 I think you're right about the exhaust. The spacing seems similar, but I haven't measured yet. The bend may be a little off. The Suzuki motor seems to tilt forward a little more.

Kawickrice, you have about the same plan as I do for your zook. I bought it because the price was right. I don't want to do a original restore, and I don't want to tackle another project like my KZ for a while. I'm gonna do some cheap stuff to make it look like I want, and then do all the maintenance. That's about it. This will be the bike that I ride to the store, and not worry too bad if it's out of my sight. Utility bike. Wifey bike.

BTW, I stopped off at the PPG store and picked up a pint of GM Torch Red. I got all of that nasty Rustoleum stripped off today. I'm pushing for another painting session in the near future. I need to re-shoot the clear on my KZ tank, and I'll get the zook parts caught up, so I can get them clear coated at the same time. Since I have all the materials left over from the KZ paint job, this will only cost me $30 more to paint the Suzuki.

the part about saying i will keep the cost down on a rider.....

nitro dragbikes are never my cup of tea.....when i ride i see if i can find some corners and pretend im a racer....nitro dragbikes are a handful going through the corkscrew....or trying to dive into the tight corners with wheelie bars....

but many of the tech tricks can be cheaply copied to a roadracer kz....dampners...magura throttle ...oil pan blocker flap.....and component stripping on the engines for total loss and weight are all direct cheap thrills on a trackday kz too....

so thank goodness for dragbikes...they keep turning up parting out on e-bay

Got my body work done on this one today. Managed to shoot two coats of epoxy primer and four coats of high build this evening. I also sorted out the problems with the fuel tank sending unit.

Now if the weather will allow, I can shoot some color on these body parts, and they will be caught up to the KZ parts. That way I can clear everything and get back to work on the KZ.

Thanks Leon. I was intent on getting some pictures of it in high build primer, but I was a total lazy ass yesterday. Damn weather screwed up my painting plans. Looks like I can't do anything for the next week with the paint.

On a positive, my Z1E order should be here tomorrow with the superbike bars. I already got my grips and needed o-rings from Bike Bandit Saturday. Transformation in short order.

Nice surprise today. The UPS man got here one day early with my bars. My apologies for the poor pictures. Maybe the sun will shine another day so that we can better see true form. Anyway here's my dungeon photos:

Now, with the proper seat, I should have just about the form that I was looking for.

The bike bars make it look, well, Super. Much improved and well done.

All that is missing is a couple KZ side cover badges in your choice cc designation and some Kawazuki tank badges and you will be all grins on the inside when they start doing double takes trying to figure it out.
