Hey, it's lookin' really good! Get that seat changed and you're good to go!

I've been pretty loyal to mother kaw for most of my life but I always thought the Suzis were very similar to the Kaws anyway....much closer to a kaw than a honda or yamaha. They even sound nearly identical with a header.

So don't worry, most of us aren't racist like that (I've even owned a few Suzukis in my life, but don't tell anyone). :P

I'd bet a dollar that some Suzuki engineer was sitting in front of a Z1 motor when they came up with this engine design. Everything is in the same place. One nice thing that Suzuki did, was the valve lash adjusters. No shims necessary.

How do you like the superbike bars? I have the stock Z1/KZ900 bars on mine, I'm looking for something a smidge more aggressive- none of that cafe racer stuff though.

Valve lash adjusters, boo. I'm not a fan of anything that makes your valvetrain more complicated.

Wow, you must just DESPISE Ducatis!

Shims are simple but it would be kind of nice to adjust valves without removing the cams (650 has stock shim under bucket and my 1000 was converted).

Ah come on Tyler, that's just your inner engineer talking. Those lash adjusters made it so easy to adjust valve clearances. Sure beats the old check, swap, order three shims, wait 3 days, install, F*#$ I should have measured it, now I got the wrong size, re-order, wait three days, and finally button it up routine.

I will say that the Kaw valvetrain is more robust.

Maybe we should all get a two stroke. The ultimate in simple valvetrains.

OMG THOSE MODELS HAVE THE 16 VALVE ENGINES!!!! multiple people have told me that those bikes will RUN away from any KZ1000 (no offense to the forum or kawasaki..) these bikes will always have a place in my heart, my first bike was as 1982 Suzuki GS300L-Zmodel bike. Suzukis are well built, sexy looking, fast little machines that will always satisfy a good rider. TheGSResources.com

Thats a really good forum that i go ro for all my suzuki questions. my username is KittenTooth just like on here. DO IT TO IT!!

Sry, didnt realize that you already did the GSR forum already:D The Charging issue is almost definately the rectifier. i went through 3 different ones when i had my GS300L. Get the aftermarket one with the wires sticking out the bottom instead of the blades. The company that makes them sorted out all the regulator issues with this. Incase you dont know already, its under the left side pannel. Also, check out the KZtwin owners forum, they have a whole gigantic section on how to make your own rectifiers out of parts from a standard alternator out of a car. This homemade one should totally be compatible with your GS. NICE BIKE, YOU ROCK FOR GETTING IT!!!

Good luck man,
KT

GS750 faster than a KZ1000? Are you all going to let him get away with this?? Anyone?? :P

1980 GS750 GL: 68 hp @ 8500 rpm / 511 lbs
1977 KZ1000 A1: 83 hp @ 8000 rpm / 529 lbs

The math isn't adding up....and that's vs. probably the slowest of the KZ1000 / KZ900 / Z1 900 models.

By the way...I always wished that Kaw had made a 16 valve version to compete but they waited until they went water cooled. I remember when the GS1000 knocked Kaw off the throne back in the day. 16 valves = more HP.
