Medicine Hat. About 3 hrs drive SE of Calgary. It's Canada's sunniest city. Was 10C yesterday (don't know what that is in bald eagles). We had a huge dump of snow in November, but mostly just skiffs here and there since.

The bike looks terrific. Congratulations! Does Alberta offer collector status insurance like BC does? If so, it might be worth starting the process now, so you're ready to ride come spring. In my case, my rates are 25% of what a 10 year old 1000cc would be.

No, unfortunately. There are the odd insurance companies that specialize in vintage autos that I'm exploring. When I got a quote last year from my current provider, it was $700/year for PLPD.

That's too bad. Here in BC, my bike was $325 for 7 months or $445 for the year for $1M liability and comprehensive with a value of $8,000. I'll probably up the coverage to $10,000 this year, based on how prices are going.

I was thinking probably $8500 would be fair. 1978's have yet to take off like 1976 or earlier, at least in North America. I'm sure it'll come in a few years.

Now you've got me thinking. I'm wondering if a more fair way to value it would just be "1970's KZ" pricing, given the rarity of finding this exact year and model for sale. Even if one did come up, it might be $5000 or more, and still need a bunch of money to get it back to where mine's at. I'm in to this one for about $4200 already, and the bike only cost me $300.

For some reason I have seen the 1977 A 1000 price jump the most of the newer than 1976 models.

Check out the sort of prices these are going for in Oz, I've seen them up to 50K!
To think I bought one just like this in 1984 for $2800, enough to make you cry!

No doubt a visually nice bike from 10 ft. But the hack job on the side covers to get the RS carbs on is nasty, the engine cases are dirty. The pictures on the top of the listing shows stock VM28SC carbs and air box. The rest show pods, hacked side covers, and RS carbs, which bike are you getting. I like that the value is going up but upset that more are getting chopped up for parts because lately some think the parts are gold plated.. but IMHO 33k is more the value of an all original museum quality untouched bike.

Got a new quote yesterday. Not too bad from bluecircle.

The price I have worked out for you Is approximately $434.00 for the year. The coverage for your vehicle would be $2 million liability, $1000 deductible for collision and $1000 deductible for comprehensive with up to $3000 in aftermarket and accessory coverages. Also, included is the use of a rental vehicle if involved in a claim.

That is not a $33,000.00 bike in any country as far as I am concerned. While it is true prices are going up on these bikes you have to remember anyone can ask anything for what they have. True value is what a seller actually receives for the item he sells. As Mikaw stated for $33K I would expect a turn-key restoration on that bike capable of 100 show points. Perhaps the seller has watched too many BJ auctions. If that bike sells for 33 grand I'm going to put my '77 KZ-1000 up for sale at $25,000.00, but I will take $24,999.99!
