those old gaskets can be a real bitch. after i shave of as much as i can with a razor I use an scotch bright wheel on a drill to remove the rest. its pretty gentle on the metal but you still do need to be easy with it.rrsmsw9999 wrote: Do the gasket remover chemicals work? I have scraped for hours on the head gasket and it still needs work. Any tips? R

I have parts and such coming and expect to marry the cases and lap valves when stuff arrives. I have been through the manual and a few kaw vids. Knowing you all are more experienced that I I would ask for any tips on 80 Z1000 case marriage. It looks straight forward and I have done this on the smaller KZs. I did not see orings between the block and head. It looks like an oil pan large oring and and a oil pump oring is what is needed. Any input appreciated, things that go wrong or are easily forgotten are what I am looking for. Also The parts books have two different clutch hub nuts (20mm). The one I have is a manual staked lock on the nut itself. Which part number is that nut? Picking un the repaired bottom case today. :woohoo: R

I'll PM you also.
I'll post a couple of pics. This thing had the Vetter fairing on it, so the headlight parts you need might not be there.
Your doing a fine job there rebuilding her.
