Cool beans and thanks. I sure I can't rotate it by hand to overcome the neutral finder. Onward. Got locktite and sealant in the bolts indicated in the fsm. Oil pump. Top end and covers to Go. R

Is the large fork located in the right place. I've tried to spin it but just grit my teeth (what's left of them) and put it in the bike. When it shifted into 2nd, I got ON it. :woohoo:

I don't know about other models, but my 1977 KZ650 doesn't have that feature. The 1978 and later KZ650's do. Ed

I guess it is. The diagram below shows the output shaft marked #24 for the 1977 KZ650-C1 (the 1977 KZ650-B1 uses the same part). The 1978 KZ650-C2, B2, etc. and all later KZ650 models use the output shaft marked #36 and the 3 little balls. The first time I read about someone having problems shifting into second with the engine off I thought they had a tranny problem. Their KZ650 was newer than mine, and that's when I learned about the neutral finder. Ed

Okay, I am to the point where I need some back ordered parts to arrive to be able to put in a new cam roller and the rubber dampers. All covers are back on the cases. Only one surprise. When I was putting the bevel gear case back on I noticed and extra bolt hole. The hole does not go through the case and has no apparent purpose. I assume it is a cast hole for the non shaft tranny cover but not sure. I attached a few updated pics and a couple of the hole in question. Any input appreciated. R

I also had a couple questions on cylinder block install.

1. The manual says use liquid gasket on the back four studs and orings (4) on the "cylinder bases". The front corner studs have knock pins. Do the back studs get liquid gasket and the front four get orings?

2. Are the orings standard metric? I have a set of viton metric orings.

3.What adhesive is advised to attach the ruber dampers to the roller guides and tensioner?

4.What else do I need to know?

Three bond or the like. Metric O rings. I looked mine up at Z1E and got some at OR. I use copper silicon on the dampers but the three bond will do as well.
