Yoicks, I found that the large fork is aftermarket only, or eBay, so I popped for the aftermarket part from Z1enterprises.com. Partzilla had the two identical forks, so that's ordered too. Going to speak to the machinist before ordering the guides, just to be safe.

Nice shop!

Let me try this again.

Thank you very much. This shop is my dream come true. This is what it looked like on May 1.

And this is pretty current, although there is another room on the other side of the double doors with the compressor, buffer, and soon a paint booth.

Be sure he doesn't take any meat he doesn't have to. The KZ 1000's have beefier large forks. You may need oversize guides. APE has them.

So this afternoon I managed to get a few hours at the shop and so I finished cleaning the engine components with the vapor blaster in preparation for the machine work. What a difference.

Upper crankcase:

And with that, I am pooped. More next week as things start to go back together.

The more you work on these bikes, the more you like them. Too bad Kawasaki decided to cut corners on the other small fours. Too reliable I guess.

I really DO like them - a lot. They are built like tanks in some ways the Hondas are not, are simpler than the Hondas in some ways I appreciate (the shifter comes to mind). I like the ball bearing crank, although bearing maintenance is a PITA. I like the cam chain tensioner system - but not the fragile rubber rollers on it.

Really, I have enjoyed working on the Friendship Bike, a lot, and this one will be that much easier to do of course. I think this one may stick around in my own stable for a while when I finally get to it :-). There's a CB750 and a CBX queued up too :-).

Get the liska cam chain rollers. They'll out last the build. Half the price of the OEM's.

Great choice of words, I think I may have said the very same thing, verbatim! Yes, it's rough, but it is actually all there. Not sure how quickly I will be able to get into this one, but I am glad to have it. Thanks Kid.
