Yes I'm talking about the rubber dampers on the top and bottom of the fork ears.

Which part on this diagram is rubber? I see #14 "gasket" but the other two (13 and 9) I'm pretty sure are the metal ones.

#14 is rubber. I had two on mine. Top and bottom.

2 a side would certainly prevent anything rattling! I do not see it in my disassembly photos but I wasn't great about photographing that area when it came apart either. I'm going to spend an hour re-sorting parts today, old and new and see if they turn up.

Thank you Steve, and all of you guys that are following along, I really appreciate you speaking up when something is incorrect.

I tried a toilet gasket. It worked for a while but came apart. Next will be some fat O rings. I'm sick and tired of paying for gold when all I get is NOS SHT.

NobleHops.....I just did my tapper bearing on my 76 with AllBalls and they set just right. No issues.
And I like to thank you for your post on installing the new swing arm bearing kit . I used your idea of using one of the old Solid bushing and slicing it in half to drive the new bearing in. Work Great.
And my Manual does not show a rubber ring on top either...mine came together fine.

That's the right idea right there: I've got a couple of O-ring sets, perhaps one of the big ones will work perfectly for this. If not I'll buy a big giant one from the hardware store and slice and re-glue it to size. That'll work great and I can button that up, and not have to wait a week for some overpriced NOS Kawi part. Stay tuned, I'll show what I figure out.

Now I wish I'd measured the bearing stacks, old and new, we'd have some data to make sense of what I found. Does the 76 have ears between the triple clamp and the top clamp like my 75 Z1? And if so, did yours fit snugly with no vertical play when you were finished?

Glad that bearing driver idea came in handy for you!
