Got it!
Can't find the 1015 cc/ 70 mm bore size. Would the 1075 cc/72 mm be OK?

So I have the gaskets on the way. Most of them anyway. I couldn't find another one piece head gasket so i just got the 2 piece. That's OK I'm just trying to get it running right now.
It also occurred to me as i was looking at the cam cover gasket that the cover is going to be different too. So I have one off a 77 on the way for $35. I'm sure it's not the prettiest but like I said I'm just trying to get it running. i'll pull the head, cylinders and pistons out of the box this weekend and give the rings a good look to see if I need to replace those too.

I'd post some glorious project updates but the great and efficient postal service has seen fit to have my package of seals and gaskets sit in Ogden all week for no apparent reason.

The package finally arrived! EVERYBODY DANCE!!!!
I got the old pistons out and I went by Lowes as per the great ${1.46} DIY Ring Compresser set thread MDZ1rider posted.
Now I just need to clean up some old gaskets and get things back together. When i just drained the oil it smelled a bit gassy. I'm guessing it's a good thing I'm rebuilding this top end.
I also need to finish rebuilding the carbs that I started last summer before it became clear that the to end build was called for.

Not much done..........
I had all kinds of fun getting the pistons in the sleeves but I got them in. As I was letting everything settle the block wouldn't go all the way down to the case. It turns out that I had an extra alignment stud on my replacement cylinder block.![ ](/media/kunena/emoticons/20.png)
I tried to figure out if there was a way to remove it but short of grinding it off and risking damaging something else and spraying everything with hot sparks and steal dust I couldn't come up with a solution. So i took the block back off and yanked the stud out then called it quits before I did something really stupid out of lack of patience and frustration. It was getting late anyway and was so hot in the garage I'm pretty sure I was suffering from mild heat exhaustion and could barely walk out into the garage much less work in it for the rest of the weekend.
Today, any hopes of going for a ride were denied by the dark clouds over the valley so I figured I'd start back up where I left off. As I was starting to slip the pistons into the sleeves I wanted to make sure everything was in place and ready to go. When I checked to make sure the dampeners for the cam chain roller were still in place, they weren't as it turns out, the base gasket tore.![ ](/media/kunena/emoticons/20.png)
I couldn't find one locally so I ordered a replacement so I can try AGAIN next weekend. I did some other honey-dos and broke the cherry on my valve spring compression tool to change out the valve seals in the meantime.

There is some good news though.
I got a replacement tank from another member here that is in excellent shape. It has been stripped of any finish on the outside so it needs to be painted. My brother is stoked about it though because he wants put some artwork on it. He used to do that sort of thing back in the day along with pinstriping so he's chomping at the bit to get at it.
I think it's going to be a pinup girl with the name "Kawi-bunga" unless we can come up with anything better. I'm sure it's nearly as overused as "Miss Behavin'" and flames but what the hell.
