KZ 1000 Team Green
04 Mar 2013 01:26 - 05 Mar 2013 00:55
Starting out with a !977 KZ1000 rolling frame. Have all wiring, air boxes, and 3 boxes of other parts. I will need a motor, tank, seat, side cover at some point. not sure what direction I am going to go with this project, I do have a 1997 CBR front end and wheel and all controls. I was going to use on my !976 CB750f, but may use it on this project. The only thing I know for sure is it will cost me more than I want it too, and take twice as long as planed. LOL. An thought on motors or anything else would be great. This is also my first Kawasaki motorcycle.

You might want to consider a early 2000 ZX6 for your USD front end and monoshock swap. Most of the USD forks are shorter than the stock KZ and cause build issues (ground clearance, also 17" wheels lower the bike, ect) You will need to address tank clearances and swap out trees for starters. There is a board member Les Holt who has a wealth of info on this & many other members have done this mod also.
I like your handlebars

Thanks for the information. Is there a preferred motor that is better than others, I know this is going to be a can of worms for some people.

It all depends on what you want it do do when youre done, how will the bike be ridden? ![B) B)](/media/kunena/emoticons/1.png)
Are you looking for a stock motor to plug/play,or are you looking for a foundation to build off of?

the mk11 style case found on 80 z1r's,mk11's use a bigger center pin and have stronger cases.
you can build a beast in any of the 900/1000 cases tho.

Just a quick look to see what the tank will look like. I have a question anyone ever put a shaft drive tank on a 1977 kz1000 will it fit and if not what mods are need. I guess a better question is what tanks will be a direct swap and which one can be made to fit. Thanks for any help in this matter.

The 73-78 z1/kz and ltd tanks will fit,79-80 1000 ltd tanks also fit.
Not sure about what it takes for MkII to fit,I think the 79-80 shaft might be its own special fit but not for sure
