I picked up my KZ1100a a little over a month ago as a streetfighter project bike. I stole it basically because the clutch was bad and the original owner was bailing on it. His loss my gain! I ordered a new clutch kit of ebay that was supposed to be the complete kit. Well after doing the clutch job 4 times I put the calipers on the plates and the steel plates in the kit were too thin. So I put it back together with the old steel plates and new friction plates and went riding.
The bike is great to ride. She is smooth with lots of power and the motor runs great. I decided to build it into something my own. Hopefully improving handling, braking, and cosmetics. As far as the power I added some new pod filters, will probably do exhaust and try to trim some weight.

Here she is the day I picked her up.

I plan on keeping the bike as a rider as I do mods. So It will be built up in stages. Here is a pic of it after I recovered the seat, removed the fairing, changed out the turn signals, and installed pod filters.

Here is the front forks I picked up for the bike. 2006 zx6r

The front rim was bent and front end was missing the top of the tree and brake calipers. I picked up the top tree from a local motorcycle salvage. New rim and calipers I got off ebay.

This should be fun. Seems like the 1100's are coming out of the woodwork here lately. Looks like a solid bike to start with.

Thanks Testarossa yep shes solid. a little over 20k on the bike and I paid more for my front forks than I paid for the whole bike.

I can not say enough good things about Leon(531Blackbanshee) I posted up on the chassis section a few weeks ago. After figuring out what front end to go with. I decide to entrust Leon to do the machine work on my triple clamps to make my 06 front end work. I can say nothing more than "impressive". Leon did the work fast and did what he said he was going to do. Thanks Leon! Here is the front triples Leon machined bushings for and set up for my kz.

I made a piece out of aluminum tonight to make my bar mounts even with the tripples heres the pics of that 1/4 in thick aluminum piece I made.

The front end is sitting under the bike right now and awaiting the top triple clamp. I have to drill the holes for the bar mounts and then I can finish up the swap. I will post more pics soon.

I did some more work to the front end this weekend and filled some dents in my tank. I made some temporary brackets to mount the headlight until I can come up with a better design. I should have her back on the road later this week. I went with some protaper dirt bike bars. Here is a few pics of the current state of the kz.

Thanks Leon. I can't wait to see how it handles. I still have a long way to go but I'm pleased with the direction the bike is going. I probably won't keep the factory seat rear fender combo. I am torn between going with a cafe style rear or using a modded factory seat pan and a homemade gpz style tail. Then there is paint? Right now I'm thinking gun metal grey. I'm going sell off all my take off stock parts to raise some money for exhaust and gauges.

I bled my brakes last night, cut off the bar lock, and double checked all the bolts. It was time to go for a ride. I got her up to around 70-80. Wow! It handles great and was worth all the trouble. Slow speed (5-10mph) operation felt a little sensative probably due to the wide dirtbike bars. I will need a zx6r master because although my stocker works fine to stop the bike it is squishy.
Looks like its ready for the next mod.

congrats on that first ride!
glad it all seemed fine and made you think it was worth the expense and time to convert the front end.

your hand crafted aluminum piece for the bar mounts turned out nice also.

i have been holding off because i was not sure whether it would go with your tank or not.

but i really like the

i think the tailpeice would work with your tank.the flatsections on the back would compliment your tank,i believe.

here is a wrench monkeys bike with the same tail to give you and idea of what it could look like.

here is another kz with the ducati tail but also with the ducati fairng and a hand made aluminum tank aswell.

you might look over all the tail sections in the vintage catagory of the airtech site they have some cool stuff, plus kzrider member dutchz works there :) .

I really like those tail sections Leon. Do you know if I would need to straighten the dip in my frame to make those work? I'm probably going to flat black out all the body parts until I get my whole conversion done. I went on airtech streamlining and there are so many cool tail sections it is going to be hard to decide. I've started making a aluminum tail but so far it looks like I'll be buying one. Thanks for the links. Keep the ideas coming.

I ordered a Koso all in one gauge today. It is one of the xr-sr units with speedo, tach, fuel, and lights for all the turn signals, Neutral, ect. I worked on the stock seat pan I am butchering over the weekend. I am going to try and make my own tail section before I order the fiberglass one from Airtech. I really like the look of the duc one in the first pic but it reminds me how much I hated the one on my rd. What ever I end up doing it will have to have a real seat. The one on my rd was like riding a 2x4. Here is a pic of that one so you will see what I mean. Is the 2nd pic of the ducati one the same tail?
