I think your bike is looking Killer man!! I'm kinda biased b/c my 550 looks pretty similar to that.... I painted my brake splitter cover flat black and it looks pretty good. Then when I installed the headlight, it hit the cover and scratched it! oops, oh well..... keep up the work man. looks awesome... Agree on building a new tail though.

Glad you got rid of the pins. Without trying to sound like a bigoted asshole, it was too... Mexican looking for me!
I like Proxy's photoshop version with, like everyone is mentioning, a tail change. I think the chrome front fender is good looking, you need some chrome on these bikes! If everything is matte black it starts looking like you are covering up defects!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm going think about my next project and keep checking out all the builds I can find. I'm going to keep on riding every chance I get. Rode about 100 miles today, lovin it. I'm getting a lot of good comments around town.

Ok, I like this a lot better. I cut down the original tail piece and made it work with a new mounting bracket. I think this might just help keep the spray off me too. I tore down my rear shocks and refinished them, as well. I understand now why you don't cut coils off the springs. I can compress the coil spring by hand now, to remove the retainer ring. If you cut them, it would be to easy for the retainers to fall out.

Looks badass man! Im doin a quick bob to my 80 kz1 right now. Im 6,4 too, how much more comfortable is your ride with the forward controls? I still ride it hard but do more cruzin so its a tough choice. Seems like knees just dont hold out that great at this height eh! That and years of abuse!
Bike looks good tho man keep it up!

I like that a lot better. Bike looks awesome. I come in at a small 6'1" and I cannot get used to forward controls. Ah well. I hear you about the spray. I've no doubt I will get skunked on mine. There were lowering kits sold for these bikes. Looked like the relocated the top shock mounts or something. Or just look for shorter shocks. Someone mentioned Sportster shocks. Although to me the whole idea of keeping the suspension and not hardtailing or strutting it is comfort and that usually means good shocks. Both my bikes have Progressives on them and I couldn't be happier. I've rode them with stockers that might as well been hardtailed and rode wallowerers. Never rode anything with those fancy Olins or anything so I can't say they are worth the coin.

I had a Vulcan Nomad last year, they're pretty much forward controls with floor boards. I loved the feel of it on a long ride. I think if I can get the rear lowered about 2" I'll have a great cruiser.

Took her out for a ride on the dragon today. Learned a very important lesson, thanks to the Maryville, TN PD. Do not go to the Dragon with a vertical mounted tag. It'll will cost you $200 from the TN State Troopers everytime. Thanks for the warning .
