That was impressively fast...I'm sure it will take me at least 100 times as long when I finally get to doing something like this.

How much total have you dropped on the new front and rear suspension items? Do you have everything for the brakes off the ZX-7 also?

its not buttoned up yet. im sure getting it perminatly fixed will take some time. i have spent $200 bucks on the rear wheel, shock, and swingarm. i am spending $470 on forks, triples, front wheel, rotors, and rear sprocket hub. so thats $670. i still need rear rotor and caliper, and front calipers. plus lots more....hurry up santa.:blink:

I have to look at the manual for shock travel but of the top of my head it's like 5.5".

So, with that in mind, figure your ride height in the rear so the wheel can move that far.

Pull off the shock and wheel and start seeing where the arm is going to hit the frame as it travels. Figure what you'll need to grind to allow the arm to move through it's range. You want every bit of travel available

My frame was LTD so I cut the lower tubes right off that formerly mounted the rear of the pipe and the passanger pegs. Your frame has the other type of bracket. It may / may not need to get hacked off.

Make the top shock mount before you make the bottom one. You'll see how the shock has to be centered in the arm so it won't rub. That determines the length of the arms coming back on the top mount.

You don't need any of those extra support tubes coming down from the upper frame rails [under the seat]to the top shock mount. Just a cross support and two short sections going back to pick up the shock. Lots of ways to make that. Do what you feel looks / works best.

Compare frame differences to yours. You can see how I cut out the master cylinder mount bracket to use it as a cross brace support and still have a side cover mount point.

You don't need the clevis that's on the shock.

One more for you to get an idea from.

One thing that's kind of a bugger is that you didn't do the back bone bracing before you had the frame coated. You can still do it and just paint it black. It won't be seen under the tank.

Well there you go for now. I'm hading to WV for a week in the morning and I'll check in from down there.

thanks larry for the heads up, and great photos. i am going to wait until i have all the sprocket and brake parts for the rear axle before i button anything up. then i will make a top mount for the shock, then bottom mount as you stated. have a great trip happy holidays....

btw, i should have the parts for the rear ere by this week. this way i can center up the tire and get everything snugged up.....Joe

what i baught myself for christmas...this stuff came from a guy on ebay who has a complete bike in running condition....his email to me....we agreed on $570 for everything listed...like new.

Both front calipers....... $60
Both front rotors.......... $60 (I show the measuements in the listing, well within spec)
Forks and lower triple ..$200
Upper triple.................$20
Front wheel and tire.....$95 (tire is ok but not great)
shipping..................... $60
total front end parts & shipping...$495

Joe I marked all of these prices down substantially from my asking price on ebay, i hope they work for you.

I don't have the front axle and spacers.

Also, please keep in mind that most of these parts are already listed on ebay and could sell before you decide to buy. I will remove the listing if and when you agree to buy.
