wasnt there a way to tell roughly when your bike was built by the frame and engine numbers. If so here is mine.
frame: Z1F-16641
engine: Z1E-16937

might be worth finding differant motor to build, those cases and motor are worth some money to a resto nut.
ive got a 73 basket case with 10/72 build date without a title, when the snow leaves ill look in the barn to compare vin with yours
frame/engine number sound like a matched set,id say its a pretty early bike.wasnt there a way to tell roughly when your bike was built by the frame and engine numbers. If so here is mine.

Im only going to do a mild build if I dont do stock bore. Since I started with these older bikes. Old guys are coming out the wood work. There waiting on this one to finish and they either want a restoration or something modded to a more modern bike.ie forks and wheels.
I have ran across two guys who are leaning toward selling me there bikes. And you wont guess what bike it is. 73 z1. cant wait to see whats going to happen. There is another guy that is said to have the first in this area a 78Z1R TC. And he caught word of what I was doing and has said that he was coming over to the garage when the weather breaks.
i love these bikes.

i picked up my 73 and yet another 75 south of lincoln ne about a year ago about 40 miles south of the kaw plant in lincoln ne where they sat in a barn for 20 years, the 73 has the gold/green metal flake that was so popular in early/mid 70s.
theres still lots of old bikes/cars/trucks sitting in barns and garages a guy just has to spend a lot of time wandering backroads and railroad tracks looking for stuff and old forgotten buildings growing out of the weeds.

your right. I just hate those that have them and know they will never touch it again but will not sell it to someone who will. What a waste
