Why not just buy Joe's (he's selling it cheap and some goodies come with it), mod it, and restore the '73. Then you have covered all the bases - a valuable classic and a custom job.

It's not a siple bolt on swap, I'm sure you know you're going to have to cut the frame to spread it and fab up new shock mounts. Some times people have no concept of reality. That bike is worth more stock than it would cost to restore it. You sir, should be taken out behind the wood shed.

 the biker version of a tree hugger,oh don't chop up the 73 restore it.
b.s.
we have enough restored cookie cutter resto's,imho.
at least someone that is going to customize an old z is most likely going to ride the thing.not resto it so they can dangle it in front of people and go "oh i have a perfeclty restored z1 that never even gets justified by being rode".
i would rather take the resto dude out back and make cherry pie.

Ok, lets get a little run down of your plan and the parts you're gonna use to get there. I know you have an inkling of the difficulty of the work you are proposing. I'm curious what your plan of attack is

I know its not a simple bolt on sway. However I dont plan on spreading the frame. The swingarm will be made from scratch and fit the stock frame. And a mono shock conversion will be added. So the mono shock conversion will be the only major mod. I HOPE.
But if things dont work out for some reason, before I start welding on the frame, I will go the restoration route. I was planning on restoring it when I got. It was missing only the chain oiler. It even had the owners manual. I found the chain oiler. So I have everything to restore it.
