Maybe you could connect some adjustable coolant hose to your argon line? That way you can set it up to point the argon anywhere while you're welding, and if its attached to your gun it will follow your weld. Or you could get a sandblasting cabinet and weld inside that after evacuating it with argon.

You hit the nail on the head Tdub. Either you use a glove box (sandblasting cabinet, ect.)
Or you use a purge hose tee'd off your main argon line. Its common to make some sort of shielding box to contain the argon against the weld area for adequate shielding during cool down. For the muffler seam I will be welding, I was going use some 1.5" copper pipe. Cap one end, flatten the pipe a little in a vise, plasma cut a line lengthwise equal to the piece being welded, stuff it with steel wool to diffuse he gas and put a connector on the other end for Thea argon supply. Should be easy and cheap......lets hope it works :woohoo:

boy you wouldn't pressure a guy now would you adam?
i enjoy tiging stainless the most.
the fiberglass tape and stainless foil is probably the easiest(cheapest) way to back purge.
or as tdub noted, tee off the valve and run another hose to a nozzle that could be clamped to the torch to go under the backside and that will move along as you weld.

i have a reverse rotation 347 ci.(poked and stroked 302)ford boat motor that i plan to finish, break in and install this winter.

i have to build the front axle to make my r1 front wheel fit my zx12r front end, also figure out and build whatever spacers it will take to marry the two.
then build custom hats for my zx12r rotors to fit the r1 wheel, after i figure out the dimensions  .
then the adjustable upper tree(of which i have never seen before:S )that fits the zx legs and the kz stem and bar mounts,z1r fairing and gauge mounts for the zx legs.fab a front fender that looks like a z1r but fits the zx legs and r1 wheel diameter.figure out how i am going to mount and actuate the master cylinder to push those six piston calipers.not to mention the steering stem work  .
it seems i take big bites and chew real slow  .
i haven't even mentioned my grandpa's old 1967 chevy truck that i got after he passed and am trying to get back up in parts hauling and gas retrieval chores.so i can get the new uni filters and new chain on my banshee so i can go ride it and have some kind of fun, cause i can't just be workin all the time.
have i told you about the other banshee that i am building?
i have a really nice freshly candy blue powdercoated a-arm frame and minus three swingarm (that i built outta cro-mo).all polished stainless bolts,a little stock stroke engine that needs the porting finished on one cylinder and assembled.cause it is all just sitting there waiting to be put together.and it stares me in the face every time i go out to the shop.
how bout the rd400 i am putting a banshee motor in?
i would really like to work on my 66 chevelle or build a frame for my 37 chevy coupe,or maybe finally get the frontend swapped under the 70 chevy big block suburban.

first things first tho i am over a thousand bucks deep in parts on the frontend of my hhr, chasing rattling thunking noises.that is my and the wifey pooh's ride back and forth to work.
ah hell what i am i saying, send me some ti i can run through your cash as fast as i do mine :woohoo: .

Holy crap Leon, you don't take big bites, you take ginormouse hippo bites!!! one thing I have yet to really learn is time/project management. To have that on my plate would be staggering. What you need is a souse wrench, someone to do what you need to help work though all the big tasks. Ideally that would be a job supplied by your kid for free, or a friends kid for a nominal fee. Maybe you're right Leon, maybe a few pieces of ti sheet will be the straw that broke the camels back!

if i was to get into planes and trains there truely would be no hope for me.
as it is one lottery jackpot and i could have an awesome collection.
until that day i will just keep plugging away and dreaming.

i haven't even bought the first lottery ticket, tho ;) cause that would take cash from my many sordid projects  .

Damn, and I thought I was crazy for wanting to put an IRS and a FI motor in my 67 mustang. Thanks for making me feel sane and normal again. I say as I mutter unintelligibly and shuffle off to the garage. Must figure out how to get a MAP signal from the KZ for tuning purposes.... :S

Thanks 531blackbanshee, suddenly the 3 year, no real progress, void in my project of cramming a 750 twin in a Triumph pre-unit chopper frame does not feel so bad. Maybe the thought of beating my butt on a hardtail has slowed the progress also.

And thanks porchev914, for keepin the project movin forward with all it's twists and turns(even if it only has 540+ replies) and taking the time to add to the body of knowledge that resides on this site. There are lots of people benefiting from your sharing.

Yeah Leon, we gotta keep you away from airplanes. Theres no telling what might happen if you start hanging around a Reno Air Racer..... 145" of manifol pressure at 3700 rpm, pumping 3800hp through 16 cylinders.....Yeah, it gets expensive

Rainman, I'm glad you have enjoyed the roller coaster that are my project/how to threads. I have done my best to contribute to the site, but I think I have learned more than I have contributed

And Leon, I wasn't trying to push you into doing something you didn't want to, and I didn't want you to make me anything....I MIGHT have been encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone. Maybe I kicked you just a little..... :P

no crawfishin now adam!

you peer pressure applicator!

ah you wasnt kickin me any direction i wasn't wanting to go.hell i want to go there.

haha i just got off the phone with the wife and she said that if her boat is not running and on the lake because i am messing around with titanium that she will personally fly out there and pop your titanium head off.

the expense and lack of knowledge is what has kept me and ti apart this long.i like to be able to do whatever i want with my chosen material whether it is weld or machine.
hell i don't know how to do either with ti.

i know if i would get some in my hands and get started that i would be where i wanted to be before long.

i have so many projects and so few brain cells left that my projects were barely making any headway.i finally came to the conclusion that i needed to "focus"on one project at a time and get it done.so the last year has been me trying to do just that.except i am really focused on three with two fighting for top priority .

the boat has to be done, because me and ann get along really well and i would like to keep it that way.i tend to run wild when i am single so i need to try to prevent that :silly: .

did i tell you about the 750 sohc honda basket case that i bought to build a denvers style chopper out of?i seen it the other day when i was cleaning my shop and storing some stuff in the old step van that i use for storage.almost got sidetracked again :side: .

i have a 1969 triumph t120r that needs one of those boyer brandsen ignitions, they are only $140?.and it could be a rider.

my other projects keep sucking the money away from the poor limey tho.

i have a shovelhead dining room ornament that would like to have some time and money also

we will get there buddy  .

How many bikes can you ride at one time Leon??? As for the little lady, I'd rather not piss her off. I'm sure she has considerable experience popping titanium heads. Not to mention the money that pays for the plane ticket could go toward the HHR.....

I understand the trepidation trying something new....no wait, I don't :P I DO understand being freightened away by the cost of materials, hence the offer for free material. If you want a couple pieces to experiment with, I'll send 'em your way.....

On a note of progress, I spoke with irishwill today (he was in a tattoo chair getting some work done) and he was going to check on my triples tomorrow. I can't wait to have a roller :woohoo:

i can only ride one bike at once, duh!

but,it is nice to have choices right!

no one bike can satisfy all the things i want out of a bike.
so i need several,or more.

one of each would be nice

hey those trees are going to be worth the wait!

Now that I understand.....I use my motocross bike for offroad riding, and in really tight technical stuff, I find myself wishing for a bike with a mellower smoother power delivery, a lighter clutch, lower gearing and a wide ratio tranny. Use the right tool for the job right? :cheer:
I am beside myself, I can't wait for Bens triples, but if I wasn't goin in that direction, I might be asking you (nicely, no pressure :silly: ) to make some Ti sheetmetal triple clamps. Lots of people have custom CNC triples, but who has Ti triples?
